I'm a Glock virgin, have some questions...

To be honest, I think they're butt ugly and until yesterday's news I haven't even considered buying one. But, the time has come to reward those who stand tall against tyranny - thus I'm considering a Glock.

I'd like to look at the 9mm choices. This will be used for CCW so I need something fairly small and narrow for IWB carry. Can you give me some suggestions as to what models to consider?

Please let me know of the magazine capacities of the various models also.

TIA,

The ideal choice would be a Glock 23. It's compact, .40 S&W, light, durable, and easy to conceal. Plenty of firepower in a small package.

PS. You're right....they are horrible looking. Probably why I'd never purchase one, until yesterday's news posted.

I have no experiance with 9mm [17 &19 models] but i do have a model 20 in 10mm. It's everything you could want for a combat weapon in a pistol platform. There very accurate [once you get used to glocks trigger] lightweight, durable, dependable. 10mm is a large framed gun so ccw is a little harder to conceal but i do carry it on occasion. i think you will like your glock if you purchase one.

Well, you said 9mm, so I'd go with either a 19 (compact) or 26 (subcompact). The 26 is good for ankle/pocket carry, or total concealment. If you usually wear an outer garment, a 19, or even a 17 (full size) will conceal well with a good IWB holster.

You can't go wrong with a 9mm Glock. I have the 19 and the 26, and they are both excellent for CCW. They are tough, reliable, accurate, lightweight and pleasant to shoot.

The 9mm Glocks suitable for CCW are the 17, 19 and 26. The 17 is full-size, with 17 rounds in the mag if you can get a hold of pre-bans. The 19 is the compact model and prbably the best compromise between size and comfort. It holds 15 in pre-ban mags. The 26 is the subcompact Glock, a great CCW choice. It is incredibly well to conceal and still packs a 10+1 punch. One thing you won't get is a slim Glock...they are all pretty beefy in the slide, even the Nines. The 26 is by far the most concealable Glock, it's a little jewel. That said, even the G19 is not difficult to hide.

I'd say try a G19 and a 26 at the range and pick the one that feels best. You can't go wrong with either one. I love the 26, but I also think that the G19 is the best Glock ever made.

I have a G19 and a G23. Welcome to the world of Glock. :)

lendringser supplied you with most of the information that you need. Try the Glock 19 and 26 at the range and see which one you like the best.

Sometimes the Glock grips can be too "fat" for some people. Grip reduction services are available from Robar (http://www.robarguns.com), Arizona Response Systems (http://www.arizonaresponsesystems.com) or Burns Custom (http://www.burnscustom.com).

My opinion: since the G26 is too big to be carried in a regular pocket, it is a belt gun. If you can hide a G26 on your belt, you can hide a G19 on your belt. Might as well go with the G19, you get more capacity and longer barrel.

I have a g-17 g-26 and in .357 sig a g-32. I carry the 32 most of the time I use the 26 in the heat of summer I don't usually carry the 17. The holster are all the same if you don't mind a little extra length. The reason I got the 32 is that the Richmond VA and the State police use .357 Sigs 229. I will most likely but a 19 next because the ammo is cheaper. I do have a pocket holster for the 26 I works fairly well.

Dont forget a quality belt and holster! I happen to like the Sparks or Kramer lines.

The G19 seems ideal. Very reliable, and a good size for most folks.

If you can find a law enforcement trade in,you might find one with a 15 round mag your govt no longer trusts you with at a decent price.

Good Luck!

The 17 is great, but too large for concealed carry. Depending on your size the 19 might be as well. The 26 would be ideal for the purpose though. The subcompacts are incredibly accurate, too. My 17 is a consistent x ring performer and is pretty old. My favorite is the G30 subcompact in .45

The G19 is the best of all worlds, by far, imo. I have two. Use 'em for the range, IDPA, ccw. Easy to hide, enough sight radius to make it easier to shoot accurately than the 26, takes 15 round hi-cap mags, doesn't pinch fingers on fast mag changes. Can't go wrong. Try the 26 though-- it is smaller, if that is the deciding factor.

19 be the one for me.

I have 2 9mm Glocks the G17 and G19, the grip frame on the G26 is way too small for my hands......Honestly I have never carried any 9mm....I carry the G22 or my G21 both are full size but I conceal them well. The 21 is a little beefier than the 40's or the 9's so it is a little harder to hide. If I had to carry a 9mm it would be the G17 I would rather have a little more to hide and the extra hand room on the grip. Glock is an excellent choice for one simple reason. You never have to buy anything to make it work better. I laid down the 10$ for hogue handalls for all of then and the Full size Glocks get night sights, but thats it!!! Thinking of going to a titanium guide rod but its not needed. If any of you have used the titanium guide rods, let me know what you think.

Compromise is not an option

the model 26 is a "three-finger gun" which makes accurate shooting more difficult (especially if you put in a NY trigger). of course, at typical defensive distances, group size is not the problem, having the gun with you is the problem.

you might consider a 19/26 duo. lots of parts commonality plus you can use the 19 mags in the 26.

All, and I mean all of the owners who I have talked to that have or have had G19s love them. I am in the market for a used one myself. I am looking for the cheapist one I can find as they never wear out. And if they do in some way they are easy to fix by an armorer unless it is a slide or barrel then that means some bizzarre torture to the weapon. The 17's may be a bit cheaper however.

CMOS: If you're looking for a 9mm, I'll let you try out my G19 at the TBRS... That is, unless you've made a decision by then.

The 19 is roughly the size of your H&K compact, but doesn't seem as "clunky," in my opinion. In addition, I would venture to say that the 19 is one of the most popular Glocks out there.

I personally prefer my G27 and G30(s) over the 19, but that's because I shoot 'em better. I carry my G27 (subcompact .40) 99% of the time.

Get the best of both worlds! How? Buy either a Glock 26 or 27 and then use high capacity Glock 19 or 23 magazines with it. The best item you can add is an A&G Grip Adapter for the longer magazines. Using these makes it feel like a 19/23 in your hand. When you want to carry revert to the short 26/27 magazines with Pearce extensions. If I had figured this out I could have saved the expense of buying my Glock 19/23s. Regards, Richard.

If you want a compact with a wallop, get the Glock 29 (10mm). You can use the high cap mags for the 20 with it, and you can buy an extension for the mag from glockmeister.

For a concealed nine, I'd say that the Glock 19 is perfect. If you are LE, you can get a plus 2 butt plate for the 26 and have somewhere for that other finger. My Glock 33 subcompact .357SIG (middle of below pic) has the +2 and it grips like a 19. If you're not LE you can still get a mag butt that provides extra gripping surface without raising the capacity above the limit set by the idiots we call government.

Geez guys, lots of info to absorb here.

If I do buy another pistol it will need to be a "step" smaller than my HK USP Compact 9mm. If it's not smaller, I'll just adjust my dress code to adapt for the HK.

I'm trying to find something in the "Sig P230" size - but in 9mm if such a creature exists. I will be sure to take all of your comments and suggestions to heart at the gun show tomorrow and see what I can find.

Thanks again for the help and..., they're still ugly!
