I recently got my first handgun, an XD-40. I was cleaning it last night after coming back from the range, and I tried something stupid. I thought I could put a bullet in the chamber while it was disassembelled, so then I could have one in the chamber with the gun being uncocked. Once I try this, the slide is completely jammed, I cant move it at all. Help?

Thanks

I can't picture in my mind what you are talking about . If the gun is disassesimbled what is stopping you from pushing the round out with a round dowell.befor putting it back togather . Or do you mean you put it back tougather with a live round in the chamber . if thats the case I don't know what to do .

I put the gun back together and the slide jammed. I let the bullet fall out of the chamber so its empty. Now the slide is unmovable though.

have heard of someone who kept a glock that way
where only slightly retracting the slide will actuate the striker
never tried though

geee

does the xd have a recoil spring that is larger on one end than the other (diameter)?

maybe tech support.
good luck...i would like to hear how this turns out

Thanks, I tried registering on the xdtalk forums, but I never get an activation email?

I think the problem is the grip safety? The grip safety is stuck in the engaged position, while the slide is stuck just right before the slide stop lever meets the locking notch..

I just took my xp apartand tried to see if I could dupcate your problem with a dummy round . no luck . I don't think the round had anythin to do with it . the only thing I can think of is some how the striker safety lever is jamed up and stopping your slide form moveing . Did you try pulling the trigger and moveing the slide at the same time . (THE ROUND IS OUT OF THE CHAMBER, RIGHT )

I did'nt think a round in the chamder could do it either, there's one in there after you fire it just before the slide opens

Did it go back allright? Hope nothing got tweeked.

Hey, British Soldier.....

Perhaps you would be kind enough to recommend another alternative.

Have you much experience with the XD there in that green and pleasant pistol shooters paradise?

I think what's happened is that the interlock has jammed up. How far did the slide go on? Is the take down pin in? It is unloaded, right? The mag is out? Tried to pull the trigger? I don't have one in the shop right now to experiment on but post the info and we'll go from there. By the way: Ignore the negative comments about your XD. They're not bad pistols and have an almost cult following but some parts of them can be difficult to properly dis/reassemble. Also, being honest about what really happened, is halfway to getting it fixed right. Keep yer powder dry, Mac

Go to a large deep lake, hold your XD in your best throwing arm and hurl the useless thing as far into the lake as possible!

Now go and buy a good pistol.
Springfield XDs are perfectly good pistols. It sounds to me that you are just insulting his taste in handguns, which is completely unbecoming.
