illegal guns at matches?

In my previous post I was looking for a good shotgun to shoot the 3 gun matches. After doing a lot of research and getting input from many knowlegeable people, I have decided on getting the benelli m2. During my searching on this site I found several postings that said putting a mag extension on a benelli is illegal because of the import ban. Is this true. I am wondering then how people are using them in matches at the state and national level. I would find it hard to beleive that any sactioning body would allow illegal firearms to be used in competition. I am just trying to get this clarified before I spend my money and get in trouble.
 
I talked to my gun dealer and no it is not illegal to have one depending on what state your in. I'm in Louisiana and it is ok BUT if you hunt it can only hold two in the mag. so I use a limiter plug for hunting. He also told me that Benelli can not import but if they made the parts here in the states that it would be no problem. It don't make sense to me but I guess we all have to live with it.
 
I'm a lawyer. And laws about guns most of the time don't make sense. Not only in the US, but in the world.
That's because the politicians who make the laws don't understand s**t about guns.

There are lot's of laws around here that don't make any sense.

By the way, the M2 is a wise choice if you've decided to go with an auto.
