Senator Sullivan of the 47th district has started an online petition to protest Chicago gun laws taking over the state. He is trying for 10,000 names.

If you are in IL please head over to http://www.opposechicagogunlaws.com/ and fill out your name and email. Please forward the address to as many IL people as possible.

Thanks

Not saying the link isn't legit and I did fill it out because it was posted here, but... If I was to blindly stumble upon that site I probably wouldn't fill it out for a couple of reasons.

No one is identified as the owner of the petition. For all I know it could be an anti-gun entity collecting names. I know that sounds a bit paranoid but I'm not one to give up too much of my info online, but with my zip and full name, you will be able to find me. But heck, it's a google docs, so I expect it to spread far and wide and be available to that Nigerian guy that wants to make me rich.

There's no opt out of receiving email. Can't really fault them here though as everyone does the same thing. I keep up with the news on my own without having to be spammed.

Anyway, thanks for posting.

Thanks for the help. Looks like we ended up with 13,000 signatures instead of the 10,000 we were going for!

Dear Friends,
*
Just a few short weeks ago, my colleagues and I started a petition drive to send a message to Illinois' legislative leaders: oppose oppressive Chicago gun laws! We set a goal of delivering the signatures of 10,000 law-abiding citizens to Illinois' legislative leaders.
*
Not only did we surpass our goal, but yesterday, I joined my downstate colleagues William Haine (D-Alton) and Gary Forby (D-Benton) in delivering 521 pages with almost 13,000 signatures directly to the President of the Illinois State Senate, State Senator John Cullerton (D-Chicago).
*

In our meeting with President Cullerton, my colleagues and I shared your message and expressed opposition to recently proposed legislation to tax ammunition and register hand guns with the government.
*
This legislation is still in the House of Representatives, but we will continue to watch it closely. Should either piece of legislation move over to the Senate, we will continue to work for its defeat.
*
Thank you for your hard work and continued engagement on this issue. Straight from your mouths to the desk of the President of the Illinois Senate, your message has been delivered.
*
Sincerely,

Senator John Sullivan
