Due in part to the 3 arrests made for selling ammo to people without FOID cards the Village of Grayslake as effectively shut down the largest gun show in IL below is a letter from the promoters I received yesterday:
November 1, 2000
Dear Exhibitor,
The Village of Grayslake, has illegally, suspended the special use
permit necessary for the operation of the Lake County Sportsmen's Show.
The November and December Sportsmen's Shows have been cancelled. The
future of the Sportsmen's show is now in question. The Village has
based this suspension on the arrest of three vendors for the alleged
illegal sale of ammunition to undercover police officers. Additionally
one vendor had two unsecured revolvers that were cable tied but not to
the table. The vendors have not been adjudicated by any court and are
innocent until proven guilty. The Mayor and Police Chief claim the show
is unsafe and has endangered the safety of Grayslake residents. We are
in the process examining the options we have in this matter, and have
retained legal counsel. If you are interested in adding your name to
the lawsuit let me know.
On November 7th, at 7:00 p.m., the Grayslake Village Board will vote on
a non-binding resolution, that has no force of law behind it. The
resolution will reaffirm Mayor Pat Carey's opposition to the continued
operation of the Sportsmen's Show, at the Lake County Fairgrounds. If
you have enjoyed attending these shows, please attend the meeting. The
meeting will be held at the Grayslake Village Hall, 10 Seymour Street,
Grayslake, IL 60030. The Village has violated your civil rights in this
matter and denied us any due process.
We are requesting donations and financial help to take this matter to
court and continue the operation of the Lake County Sportsmen's Show.
Donations can be sent to: Lake County Sportsmen's Show, P.O. Box 1667,
Arlington Heights, IL 60006.
Exhibitors that have paid for table space will be credited for future
shows and retain their normal table assignments. Please do not ask for
a refund at this time, we need every dollar to fight this draconian
action. If we are not successful in court refunds will be given at that
time. Remember to VOTE on November 7th, and send a message to the
anti-gun politicians in your area.
Sincerely,
Lake County Sportsmen's Show
