IJ Sealed 8 question

I have an IJ sealed * revolver. Can someone tell me why it only will fire with CCI .22 and will not fire Remington .22 ?????? They both chamber but even though it dimples the round on the Rems they will not fire. Thanks

The Remington ammo might have a slightly harder case. Does it fire OK in other guns? If not, then that ammo is no good (too old, etc.)

If the problem is not the ammo, there are several other possible areas to check. The first is to make sure the firing pin (part of the hammer, IIRC) is protruding far enough; that can be checked with the cylinder out, since with the cylinder in place, you can't see the firing pin. Then check the mainspring (hammer spring); it may be weak and need replaced or someone might have cut it down to reduce the trigger pull and taken off too much. New springs are available from www.gunpartscorp.com .

Another thing to try is to rotate the misfiring rounds in the chambers, and then attempt to fire them again.

In some cases, a bad batch of rimfire ammo will have the primer compound unevenly distributed around the rim, and the rounds will misfire when the firing pin strikes the wrong spot. However, the same ammo MAY fire in a different gun with a heftier firing pin spring. At any rate, the course of action is the same- either discard the ammo, or use it in a .22 in which it works (not the IJ).

Rim fire "dead spots" are pretty uncommon, at least in the last century or so. Plus, the Sealed 8 holds eight rounds, I would think that chance would ensure that even with bad ammo at least some of the rounds would fire.

Check the thickness of the rims. I had some remingtons that had a skinny rim and if you had a firing pin that would just get there it wouldnt hit it hard enough. They did good in a automatic.
