Ignoring history

Why do politicians continually do this?
Ms. Fienstien wake up! We do not want a continuation of a bill that does not work! Spend some of your efforts on reducing crime, not on penalizing law abiding citizens! For we as law abiding citizens are the ones who will suffer. Criminals will not abide by laws however much you want them to. Thats why they are called criminals!!!

Don't voters also continually ignore history?
The historical trend is for governments to gather more powers and "rights" for itself, no matter how well intentioned the government was at the time of its founding. Was it not said that "the price of democracy is eternal(could be wrong word here) vigalance"? Yet voters try to remain ignorant on issues, don't watch the voting records of their congressmen/senators, and don't watch the Supreme Court and Federal Courts take away various aspects of rights.
Also, both "Liberals" and "Conservatives" always ask for more laws and more restrictive laws to be passed. This ignores even the cursory analysis that the problem is not lack of rules and potential punishments, but the lack of enforcement. Thus, the effect is to reduce the rights of the law abiding while not impeding criminals, and giving voters the illusion that their politicians have done something.

The point of leftist extremist so-called "gun control" has nothing to do with crime or criminals. Those are just part of the rationalization.

The point is to disarm law-abiding American citizens.

RoyJ,

They know this, but a disarmed people are MUCH easier to rule... Hell Hitler, Lenin, and Stalin did it. Look how well they controlled their people, or should I say BUTCHERED them...

Besides they do not have to fear any criminals out in the "wild" as they have armed guards protecting them 24/7.

Thanks to all who took the time to give their insight. To leap right back into the controversey How does one deal with elected officials like these? This country is so vast that it would be impossible for an agenda that far reaching to happen. (Remember Red Dawn?) Will it really come down to this?
Here's a scenario: The ink is barely dry on a new sweeping FEDERAL LAW. You, as an average citizen are told in so many words that you must give up any weapon you have in your possession. How will this be enforced? Who will enforce it? How many lives will be lost before someone says "This cannot and will not work!" Can't a voice of reason be found?

Still hopeful (but Just)
