If you were a bodyguard: what guns & gear would you pick?

That really depends on whom you're hired to protect, in what activities is that person participating, and the location; city, state and country. (??????????)

I was thinking what you would want for a full kit. What you used would vary a bit. A formal dinner would be different than State fair I imagine.

I'd probably use a glock 19 (or any other compact fullcap 9mm for that matter). A Benchmade AutoStriker with a serrated blade. A second knife for backup (either a bootknife or one of the old 4" benchmade balisongs). And maybe some sort of baton/asp (but not one of the auto batons, I have one and its too bulky to conceal). As far as fellow bodyguards, I'd probably pick one of the guys I train with who is proficient with weapons as well as fighting.

A very good friend of mine IS a bodyguard - she guards a lot of Saudi princesses, female politicians and whomever her agency gets for her.

She carries a G26. However, the whole point of bodyguards is not to shoot up the bad guys or take one for your client...it is to get your client the hell out of harm's way. Kind of a rat mentality (no offense intended) - they will only "bite" when their client is cornered.

Knowing her, it would be one helluva bite though :)

I just wish she would sit still long enough to court :D

.38special(shrouded hammer model);spectra vest + groin protector; quality sunglasses; cell phone, creditcard, rolodex(very important esp. if you're working solo since advance planning & prep. is the best weapon);
my other job specific gear included a defi-
brillator/pacer, paramedic kit & mini O2 tank(all in an accountant's case); for boredom, a mini blackjack game & snap caps;
re: fellow bodyguards, i liked to work w/ close-ins who spoke the SAME language + used/understood the same facial/hand signals + practice drills that enabled us to go home alive & cash heavy; in the end, it all depends on the client's cooperation & willingness to spend.

I am no fan of the Glock but I understand the compact and full size Glocks can use the same mag. I think that is a huge tactical advantage. I would definitly go that route, they are not the best pistols, but overall may be best for the job at hand. I would also want a reliable subgun like a HK PDW (maybe in the briefcase holder :)). So if that is 9mm, I guess the Glocks would be also. Or the FN P90 and corresponding FN handguns. If concealment was no problem I want a Benelli M3 or M4 Super or a carbine like a Carbon 15 (light)or M4 (full auto)with a good CQB Optic like a Reflex II. If you are in a team, different members can carry different weapons to match percieved needs, with one capable of being some sort of countersniper.
Of course communications will be of supreme importance. Good leather. Slings, Tac Lights, Optics, body armor, vehicles, and of course training, training and more training. A nice Microtech HALO and/or LUDT on my belt.
For formal events I would wear a P7M8 or two.
Just cause I like 'em.

I would carry my .32 PPK. It is a real man-stopper. Like a brick through a plate glass window. Of course I'd wear my Rolex. And I would carry about $50,000 in French francs in case any games of chance should erupt.
