If you used a gun for a canvas...

The recent post here got me thinking.

I've been contemplating painting a Benelli M2... no skulls or zombie apocalypse stuff. No ducks in flight or turkeys with a surprised look on their faces. No geometric patterns. Something completely out of the ordinary... perhaps contradictory, but no "Hello Kitty" either.

Anyone have ideas for a shotgun paint job? Think art, think strange, fascinating and perhaps... even beautiful.

Oh yeah... I have an art background, so I'll be doing it myself.

Cheers,

Dali? Possible... and Picaso as well.

I've been thinking of van Gogh, Degas dancers, Escher, Pre 1930s Maxfield Parrish certainly. Maybe even Frida Kahlo. A non-geometric M.C. Escher might work well on a shotgun.

Thanks for all the ideas... keep 'em comin' please.

If you have an art background then you know the paint job should be an expression of your own....especially if it's going on YOUR gun. Using someone else's idea on your own gun seems kinda........you know, silly.

Not so much. I'm not as clever as I used to be, so a bit of inspiration is always a good thing. Besides, it's an interesting premise for a thread ain't it? Got you to express your view. :D

For some reason I though of painting it like a puzzle.
Interesting idea Ranger. Maybe... and this might be a stretch, a puzzle within a puzzle... like an Escher illusion, in a conventional puzzle pattern.

I got plenty of time to think about it... I'll be in hospital for about a week next week, on excellent sedation... so we'll see where that goes.

I recently saw a "tribal" painted rifle,,,

Like tribal tattoos.

It was very subtle in tone,,,
Black art on a dark gray synthetic stock.

Very striking.

I've considered tribal "look" art... where a tribal style is used to create a relateable object.

Cool, and kinda fun with the right subject. Hell, I'm even looking at Fabulous Furry Freak Bros. art. :p

Thx,

Completely forgot about Marcel Duchamp. :o, but cannot find any paintings that reference geese or ducks (not that I want ducks or geese). Are you referring to his style of surrealism?

There is one painting, "Etant donnes", which, due to the subject matter, I cannot show here, that is fascinating, and very hard to describe. An amazing, strange, complicated and mesmerizing piece. I'd love to go to the PMoA and see it with my own eyes.

Thanks,
C

You pull a Pollock and just splash/drip paint all over it. Some how it shows your mood while you were painting.... so the art critics say

Well... it certainly would be quick and easy. ;)

I'm afraid I'm somewhat indifferent to much of Jackson Pollock's work... but a more "constructed" variation is a possibility.
