If you had to choose.....

what HP clone would you buy, the FM, Arcus, or Feg. Or would you have to have the orginal no matter what it cost. I'm interested in Hi-Powers and/or clones, but nobody has them around here. Thanks in advance.

The cheap imports dont use near the quality of steel the Browning's do. No point even getting into the fit and finish aspects. If you really want a high power I would reccomend to save your money, you wont be dissapointed that way.

I would have to have the original. But not, no matter what the cost. HPs arn't all that expensive. Have a gun store order you one. Go to auction arms or gunbroker.com and have your local dealer get it for you. I wanted one for awhile. I let the word get out. Before long I had three.

I have a FEG and love it. I don't care about the asthetically pleasing aspects of guns. I go with what works. The FEG that I have does just as good a job as my buddies Browning. I paid $300 less for mine.

I waited, saved my coins and bought a Browning Hi Power. Got a mil-spec early Belgian MkIII and had a trijicon front, Novak dovetail rear, and Cylinder and Slide no-bite hammer and wide trigger installed in it. One of my favorites and the ONLY autoloader that i owned for many many years.

If you don't want to spend the money on a browning then i guess it would be a toss up between a FM and one of the older FEGs. I have been told but do not know for certain that some of the new FEGs have redesigned internals and do not take all the BHP parts. Cylinder and Slide has built many custom Hi Powers on FM and FEG guns so they can't really be that bad.

The Arcus is just plain hideous in my eyes and i could never own one. Sorry, it may be a great gun it it is not a Hi Power to me.

I have one of the older model FM Hi Powers and I am extremely pleased with it.

100 percent reliability straight from the box with JHP's and FMJ's. It even fed Corbon JHP's with no problem. I paid $250.00 for the weapon and I believe I would be hard pressed to find another weapon of that quality for such a great price.

I removed the magazine safety and it improved the trigger greatly as well as allowing empty magazines to fall free from the weapon. I also polished the chamber and feed ramp for that extra little bit of reliability.

You can check over at www.cruffler.com for reviews of the Argentenian FM series Hi Powers.

Don't be in a hurry. If you hold out you will probably find a deal. The first Hi-Power I bought is a Belgian Browning and I paid $275 for it last year. It came with a holster, mag pouch, and two mags. It is Israeli Army surplus. It shoots just as well as the other two commercial models I own and has become a foundation for my first semi-custom handgun. There are always deals out there if you are in the right place at the right time and haven't squandered the money on something else. Keep an eye on this web page; http://www.fnhipower.com/ When deals like those Israelis come around, they will be talking about it there. By the way, that Israeli came from Aim Surplus, they had tons of them at the time and I found out about it from one of these on-line boards; http://www.aimsurplus.com/ My dealer ordered me one for a $15 charge.

BHP or Clone?

FWIW, I have the FM version and for what I paid for it I'm pretty pleased with it. It's not as nice as the original but for $207. out the door it
works for me;)
I will eventually get around to getting the real thing one of these days :)

The Belgian-made, Portuguese-assembled guns are still going for relatively reasonable prices (mid-to-high 300's for a nice used one). They tend to have very nice bluing and only the slightly lower quality of the hardwood grips distinguishes them from an all-Belgian FN at a glance.
