If you are prone to violent fits, put all heavy objects down...

I think I can finally put to words what I witnessed yesterday without foul language and threats of imminent harm to some BATF agents...
I stopped in at my local gunshop and it so happened that he was in the middle of his compliance check. Two BATF(Jack Booted Thugs) agents where doing this inspection. One was checking his firearm log book with the guns on the rack in the store. Normal procedure. What caught my attention was the smuck behind the counter flipping through yellow forms. I see this as standard procedure for these guys, but what I didn't see as standard was the yellow legal pad having peoples names, addresses, weapon type, and number of weapons purchased. I went to the counter to pay for a new cleaning rod and inquired very low if what he was doing was what it looked like. He said yes that for the past several years they have gone through yellow forms and written down anyones name who purchased any type of semi-auto rifle or riot type shotgun.

As the numbers where read off the guns and the other JBT made sure numbers matched up he decided to tell the owner that it was know illegal to sell riot shotguns or semi-auto rifles to anyone under the age of 21.

I think it is time to let our displeasure show, I'm going to write my senators and let them know what I witnessed and I am going to call BATF and complain long and loud.

How far away are we my friends from a raid like we witnessed at Waco and again at Miami this past weekend because we simply own guns.

You might wish to ask your dealer if BATF is writing down names from their yellow forms to.

Here is my latest letter, will this ever stop?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Senators,

I am writing today to lodge a compliant against the BATF for what I witnessed them doing in a local gunstore yesterday afternoon.

One of the compliance officers was stating that under current laws the dealer was no longer allowed to sell certain long guns to anyone under 21 years of age. Since the 1968 Gun control act the 21year age requirement has been enforced on handgun purchases. I can find no reference to any passed law regulating such weapons. One is in committee in the house at the present time.

What I witnessed next was even more disturbing to me, an agent was observed writing down the names, addresses, phone numbers, and gun information off the yellow forms. It is my understanding that with passage of the Brady Law and the NICS check no records where to be kept of any type of firearm transaction by the BATF. These where and are supposed to be dealer items only, unless a license holder gives up his or her license. What I witnessed yesterday was not compliance officers doing their job, what I witnessed was compliance officers registering firearms of unsuspecting citizens.

As a citizen of this country I ask you to investigate this transgression, I ask you to work towards disbanding this run away group of government employees. Senator Orrin Hatch was more than correct when he first called BATF, "Jack Booted Thugs" The organization works through fear, the dealer fears for his livelyhood and BATF exploits that in order to infringe upon the citizens of this country.

Senators I await your reply to my request.

What he was doing was wrong. If your dealer had protested it and called their supervisor, it would have stopped and they would have left their yellow legal pad behind. The same thing happened to my friendly dealer and he protested what they were doing. They quit.

They try what they think they can get away with.

Some entrepreneur is going to make a mint selling gun store owners video cameras and microphones with parabolic reflectors.... I hope.

Polite words do not exist to describe these.... people.

I'm glad I put all the heavy objects in my arms down before reading that...

And this is news? I heard about this some years back. And I got to witness a similar event at the state level. In 1994 or thereabouts, I was in law school in Nashville. I went to a local gun shop to get my "smell of gun oil" fix and a cop walked in. Claimed he heard that a gang member had bought an AK and wanted to see the records. He then said he might have gotten the type of weapon wrong so he wanted to see the records for AKs, ARs, Mac-10s, etc. The owner told him that was illegal and only ATF could see them. The cop asked in a very threatening way if the owner if he wanted the cop to go and get a search warrant. The owner gave in and showed him the records, which the cop promptly began copying.

The gunstore that I frequent here has had several "forward trace" records inspections. The BATF was very interested in semi's.

Another good reason to buy your semi's privately.

Couldn't have said it better.

The number of FFL holders has dropped by well over half since Clinton took office. Episodes like this won't help that number increase any.

you would think they would have enough tact to do this operation discretely

but i guess the down trodden get no quarter

That is why the Law Enforcement Alliance Of America has filed a lawsuit against the DOJ to force O'l Janet to stop this highly illegal action. Check out their web site at www.leaa.org/index.htm
They also have a pettion going to try to get Janet fired.

ATF!!!

We had better raise bloody hell about this! That's clearly a prepatory action. Criminals aren't known for using auto rifles in street crimes.
ATF. You guys are really a bunch of heros.

This is definitely not the first time this has been noted on TFL. I simply assume this is the case at this point.

And, I assume the only protection any of us have is that the sheer volume of firearms and owners makes it impractical for them to harass us further, at this time.

Finally, I assume that the tactic will be to marginalize guns owners and guns one group at a time, as we've seen. SKS rifles with detachable mag's today ... www.sksbuyback.org . And, other types tomorrow. Ad infinitum. Until you're left with a bolt action, single-shot .22 rifle, at best.

Might take 20 years, or they might get it done in the next 8, with Al Gore's help.

I don't know about f-troop, but here in the
peolpe's republik of kalifornia, the state
law gives the local police ( as far as I know
) to come in regularly and copy the sales
records- all of them! From what I've heard,
they NEVER neglect this chore! No matter what
else they have to put off!

With their rather singleminded focus as of late, why do they still include the 'A' and 'T' in their name? Why not just 'BF'?

The video message from AG Bill Lockyer on the sksbuyback page just makes your skin crawl. I kept expecting his head to split open to reveal the evil alien overlord within. Of course, he'll deny that he's really an alien overload...just ask him - you'll see.
