If I planned on Scoping an AR what should I consider?

I was looking at an A3 model and I wasn't sure if paying $885 was worth it? Is there anything to avoid for Scope mounts on AR's?

well if ur gonna go flattop with a scope then make sure the handle is detachable, if ur gonna add a ACOG or something like thatit doesn really matter. ARs are cool

Based on my limited experience, I would not think that the .223 round is accurate enough at long range to bother using a scope. I'd consider the .223 to be accurate out to about 200-250 yards max. At that range, particularly considering that most social applications for the AR-15 will be much closer, I'd go for a good red dot optic, like the Aim Point.

I can keep M193 ammo in a 16in group at 400yds with a Mini 14. I'm sure an AR with its heavier barrel would cut that down. I shoot at a range where I've seen a few guys shoot 400-500yds with AR's and still hit what they were aiming for.
