If for RX reasons you had to depend on a 22Cal Revolver what would you get?

I know that the 22cal is not the self-defense choice,however, if that is the only choice...What revolver and Ammo would you choose? Thanks for any help. concealed carry is a consideration.:confused:
 
S&W Model 34 is one choice,,,

The S&W Model 34 is a J-frame (small) .22 revolver that holds six rounds,,,

The one pictured is wearing Pachmayer Compac grips,,,
Used they run in the $400 to $500 range.

The S&W Model 317 ia a J-frame with aluminum alloy frame and holds 8 rounds,,,

There are also the Charter Arms Pathfinder,,,
6 shot capacity, stainless steel, 2" or 4" barrels,,,
A lady friend owns this very nice handgun,,,
It shoots just as well as my Model 34.

As far as ammunition goes,,,
I like CCI Mini Mag round nose,,,
But that's just a personal preference,,,
I go for high velocity and deeper penetration.

Other people will recommend hollow-points,,,
I can't argue with their choice at all,,,
I just prefer round nose bullets.

A good round for hollow points would be CCI Stingers.

my wife, like many, can't handle recoil of most calibers, also can't rack the slide on most pistols. The new Ruger LCR 22 worked out for her fairly well. It's her bedside gun. Ammo is CCI MiniMag.
 
I had a 9 shot Taurus model 94 with a 3" barrel that was just as good as my S&W model 34. I wish I hadn't sold it. You might look at those. With all the bad press about Taurus I wouldn't buy one online. Go to the gunshow and inspect the gun in person. And if you don't know what to look for take someone with you who does.

I am guessing the 22 is for low recoil? Not too long ago I bought a J-Frame model 30 S&W in 32 long with a 2" barrel for just over $300. About $200 less the the above mentioned model 34 in 22lr. The 32 long has a little more recoil than a 22 but not a whole lot more. And loaded with wadcutter bullets should be more effective for SD.
 
I'd just get the Charter Pathfinder snubbie and make sure that it ran reliably.

Put the small wood grips on it, load it up with Stingers, and throw it in a pocket holster.

Not sure if single action would be good for somebody with hand strength issues or arthritis. I do love the NAAs for easy 24/7 carry, though.

If I was restricted to a .22 revolver (I assume we are talking about .22 LR) for self defense, I would choose a S&W Model 63 8-shot 3" in stainless for a house gun and/or a S&W 43C or Ruger LCR-22 for a lightweight "hammerless" 8-shot carry weapon.
 
If it must be .22lr, then I would want more than 6.

F. L. Nicholson, Jeff Cooper's "Man in Nebraska", could not carry a .45 Auto in later years due to arthritis.... carried a Ruger Mark II everywhere she went..... and could put 10 holes in an index card at 7 yards right quick ......
 
Ruger Single Six in .22 Magnum with HOT hollowpoints. If restricted to .22 LR, a Ruger Mark 2 Semi-Auto with CCI Stingers or another smoking round. .22 LR's, if placed properly, are nothing to sneeze at.
 
The one you find most comfortable to hold and use. Get a good brand, Ruger, S&W, ect and you should get a reliable pistol as for ammunition I like mini mag hollow points.
