If famous gunfighters existed in the modern day, what would they choose?

If famous gunfighters like Wild Bill, Doc, etc lived in the modern day, why do you think they would choose and why.

Ready set go

I would suggest that Will Bill would carry a 1911. As for Doc Holliday, I think it would be a pearl handled 38 snubnose (I think I've read that he carried a rather short barreled revolver anyway).

Which one of the outlaws do you think would shoot their gun "gangsta" style?

As a side note.... Do you know why the gangbangers shoot their guns sideway?............. Because that's how they come in the box.:D

Since they were used to revolvers, I think they'd switch and go with a poly semi, since light weight and large capacity would be new to them. 2 Glock 17's?

seriously looking at the men, their occupations, & the ranges & type of shooting they did...

I propose a couple of options...

1st... in this class, capacity is not needed, an easy to shoot easy to hide gun in a caliber heavy enough to get serious stopping power with one shot...

options ???

a nicely tuned 1911
a Ruger Alaskan ( 44 mag, or 454 casull )
a gun like my Air Lite S&W in 44 Special... maybe the 44 Mag variety ( Mountain Lite)

others ???

2nd... in this class ammo availability, ease of maintenance... still good stopping power is needed...

maybe one of the many plastic 40's...

if stopping power were of more importance than ammo availability... maybe a 10 mm

others ???

3rd... intimidation & fire power

Desert Eagle in 50 or 44
one of those 223 semi auto handguns
one of those short barreled shotties
maybe the 5 Seven with 30 round mags ???

personally if it were me... I would carry one out of the 1st group, probably the Mountain Lite in 44 Mag, & one out of the 3rd group, probably the 5 Seven

:)

i think they would stick with revolvers. they would no doubt go for the rugers with they solid craftsmanship and affordability. probably single action, so i'd say blackhawks.

I think they would carry much of what the crime fighters and criminals of the 1930s and 40s carried. Many of them carried the best weapons of the day. I think MP5s and Colt Commandos and AKs would replace the Thompson, BAR and Shotguns. Glocks, Berettas and HKs would replace the old S&W and Colt revolvers. Also throw in a cut down 870 pump and you would be good to go!

I doubt it. Keep in mind that in 1875, for example, the 1873 Colt SAA was new technology. And thats the only reason they had those. They were tools back then as many new guns are today to many people. I would think they'd go with a reliable semi because they would love the idea of hi capacity with fast reload. Like the boy scouts say, come prepared.....

But who knows. Some would have an interest in older guns for sure while others would want the latest and greatest today as they had back then, which were SA cartridge revolvers, over 130 yrs ago.

Truthfully, many probably wouldn't carry as often or be as worried because of today's technology. Obviously you could look at it the opposite way but this whole thread is speculation.

Wild Bill would still carry his Navy Colt's
Right. He seemed to be in no hurry to abandon the old technology for the new standard, which were more reliable cartridge arms. So, in modern times, I doubt he would have adapted to today's standards...he seemed to be a slave to tradition, or at least what he had grown comfortable with.

It seems to me that they carried and used the cutting edge technology of the day when they embarked on their gunfighting endeavors.

As they got older the technology of the day passed them by, but they continued to carry what they knew, and what had worked for them in the past. I seriously doubt that they would still use an SAA, but may favor a 1911 or even a Glock, depending upon their age and what the common handguns were when they were kids if they were growing up in this era.

Billy the Kid was said to have favored a Double Action Revolver, and carried one often. Being that he was younger than many of his contemporaries may have him carrying a Glock today, while someone like Wyatt Earp might favor the 1911.

Just my $0.02 in this interesting thread.

Biker

in A Fist Full of Dollars, Clint carried a couple single action revolvers.
in the remake, Last Man Standing, Bruce carried a couple 1911's.
makes sense to me. if you lived that lifestyle you'd want proven technology.

They do live in modern day. They just have different names, they've adapted to the present day, and they're carrying semi-autos, for the most part, last time I checked. Do you really have to ask why?;)

He means there's plenty of punks runnibg around killing people.

How many people did these gunfighters of yesteryear kill? I'm sure that we have plenty of punks who have killed as much or more as Billy the Kid or whomever.

I think that if billy the Kid were here, he'd carry a stolen Glock with no holster.

Or an RG 22

Or Hi-points

A little history research would tell you that Billy the Kid (William Bonney) wasn't always an outlaw. The law in Lincoln Co. were outlaws and they murdered Bonney's boss (a prominent rancher), who he was rather fond of.
