If Bush is so worried about terrorists then..

..why does he leave the US so vulnerable with his unforgiveably weak border policy....it is like a bank leaving it's doors unlocked at night...can anyone give a reason(excuse) for what is obvious to anyone with a brain...

will Bush take personal responsibilty for un-told numbers of deaths if a bio or atomic weapon is set off in large city...?..how will he be able to repay for that sin..?

as much as I liked Reagan in many areas..he is also guilty of not taking care of this problem when it was much smaller...same blame must be heaped upon Bush Sr. as well as Clinton...

Bush says building a wall would send the wrong message...like telling the would-be terrorists you won't enter our country here???

Business wants the cheap labor. Bush is really a creation of the economic conservatives. They spout social conservative stuff to get those folks to vote for them.

The chance of terrorism is not as expensive as the loss of cheap labor.

It's like the calculation that fixing the Pinto so it didn't incinerate you was more expensive than paying off the victims. Business 101.

aspen1964,

Exactly what would you do about it, realizing that it is Congress which makes the laws? How many troops would it take to secure it, and is that even legal within the existing laws?

Give us the benefit of your experience or wisdom.

You make a very thought provoking point aspen.

No one else seems to notice, or care. The government tells us, hell's a coming someday. Then they vote more power unto themselves, over us, strip searches, and the right to dig into our personal lifes, and leave ALL of our borders open.

What gives here, what am I missing?

Isnt our faults?

Its all so easy to blame or aquit this person or that, but its our responsibuility. Our responsibuility to ensure the laws that are currently on the books are enforced. We elect and re-elect these bafoons.Dont blame the monkey, smack the handler.

Civics 101

Article I Section 10 -- No state shall ... engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such immenent danger as will not admit delay.

Article I Section 8 -- Congress shall have power to... To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the laws of the Union and repel Invasions.

Articl III Section 1 -- Oath of affirmation - " I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of the President of the United States and will, to the best of my ability, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

These are the words of our Constitution. I think Congress and the President both could use a review of it.

It seems you are telling us we cannot protect our borders if that is so best
capitulation now and save ourselves. We act as police force for the world spending billions of dollars yet we cannot or should not protect our
borders.

..I have heard some good and no-good responses to a simple question...as President, does Bush not have power to at least propse a measure to secure our borders...did he not go to the Senate/House to wage a war against Saddam???....is that threat less than this is???...does he not view this thing as a crisis and threat to our country's safety??...what the hell is so unconstitutional about the power to safeguard America's borders from danger???...as to voting, we have what we have in the potential election pool...the problem is that we are often given a choice between bad and worse...not good(or great) and bad...are some of you telling me that we could fight and defeat two major axis powers in WW2, take on the Communists in the world and yet be too weak to watch our southern line?
..from some it sounds like we are able to climb a mountain but are having too much trouble getting over that speed-bump!!!!

You just ask questions without a single idea.

What I am telling you is that there is no way to competely seal our borders until we impose some severe consequences upon the employers, and be willing to take serious consequences for illegally entering, and if necessary to shoot.

There is no way the congress is going to do either of those things I do not believe.
Bush cannot do all that without Congress. He has tried to do some things, and I disagree with him on some. I think a guest worker program with harsh penalties against employers would mostly solve the problem. I greatly disagree with amnesty.

However, the Dems want all the minorities, and would not go the distance, and maybe the Rep would not either.

I'm not even discussing any illegal alien staus..just border control...why the hell do we bother to patrol the DMZ in North Korea???...can't stop em' anyway right??...why bother preventing foreign insurgents from entering Iraq??...can't stop 'em anyway right???...why did we bother landing at Normandy?...the Germans are just too strong to overcome?..right??..the Russians are too powerful...the French have too much political might..why does Israel bother to protect itself as it is futile...anything else you want to give up on??..hell..King George will beat us anyway..so lets not revolt against his authority...lets be honest about Bush..he obviously doesn't like this issue which shows his disregard for these dangerous times..If he put a tenth of his IraqWar passion on this subject there would have been far more done...I watched his face when he was debating Kerry and all throughout the election..it is not hard to see that his face showed squeamishness when answering questions on certain issues including the border..Kerry didn't have anything to bring from the start...but those 2 were my only choice..so all I could was hope..as far as Congress is concerned..I have yet to see Bush tell them the seriousness of this problem in the same regard he stresses about Iraq seemingly every 15 minutes....

And that means what in your conversation? The real answer came in the recognition that WE, the voters, can run our mouths on forums, but never seem to make it to the politicians that we elect with our thoughts. Why does it seem that so many groups can always manage to get their agendas heard? Why, they actually write, and visit, their politicians. How many of us ever manage to show up at one of the "Town Hall" meetings for our Congressional representatives? And actually TALK about what we want?

We're all so expert in why a politician does something, or why the government does something, but only in the shadows.

Pogo said it right fifty years ago: "We have met the enemy, and he is US"!!!!

President Bush has told us that these people coming across our borders are nothing more than people looking for a better life for their families - and that he'd like them to be citizens. What's wrong with that?

Oh so this all my fault..right?...the fact that politicians make promises they don't keep...or that we often have poor choices in the first place...I have made my opinions known plenty of times to my reps here in AZ...fact is I have only so much control in this world...what are you doing..criticizing mwe for using my freedom of speech allowing me to complain about the leadership in this country...at least I can do it here in this country...better to be a complaining sheep than a mute one before the slaughter...

Rick, I don't know if you're being sarcastic or what, but they're coming over here illegally. If they can't respect our borders, they should be deported.

I don't know why we bother to have laws or security measures if we don't uphold them..maybe that is too honest for today's people...maybe that is why I've been told this is the end times of the world...when right and wrong are perverse...may God help me to raise honest-minded children in this backwards world...they look more like peolpe coming here to demand anything they want..and expecting us Americans to give it to them...a little like threats and blackmail...

I remember hearing Mr. Bush sying that he was Gov of Texas, he knows how to handle the border. In a pre 9/11 that worked. I think deep down it's benificial to both countrys, somehow, and he knows it. He just doesn't like to tell us what's up for some reason. Either way, I'd like to see some beefed up security down there. People can come in just as easy outta Canada though. That's a huge border up there, so what's next. Remember what happened to China, After the hundreds if not thousands of years building their wall, it ended up being their demise.

Aspen,

What bothers me about your question is that it seems to single President Bush out as having some control over our illegal alien problem. My problem with that idea is that our illegal alien problem is older than President Bush.

I cite the Patriot acts as an example of what President Bush tried to do to secure our borders. Look at the flak the Patriot Acts have taken.

Look at Bill Clinton's record on securing our county's borders. Imagine how John Kerry or AlGore would've dealt with our illegal alien problem.

You're faulting President Bush because some greedy people in our country don't want the illegal alien problem fixed.

Or is he faulting President Bush for not doing everything in his Powers to resolve the problem and to lead from the front?
