I would like to get involved with idpa. I have a couple of questions,I live in franklin county in mass and was wondering were the closest idpa organization is in western mass. My second question is, I would be a beginner and I am trying to decide which of my handguns to use, I am thinking of a s&w m-15 4" revolver, a sig 229 9mm. Any help would be really appreciated.

As said, there is a club locator on the IDPA site.

There is a good introduction at
http://www.eastontacticalops.com/information.html

If you are a reasonably proficient double action shooter, you can have fun with your revolver. The only problem there is that it takes .38 Special +P to make the required power factor* of 125,000 with factory loads. A good stout handload with a lead or moly coated bullet will make power factor at the maximum standard load or just into +P. Jacketed bullets are tougher.

*Power factor = Muzzle velocity in fps X bullet weight in grains.

Your P229 will do fine with the usual run of 9mm econo-ball ammo.

I know they run IDPAs at smith and wesson. Im not sure how far of a drive that is for you buy they do a great job with their matches.
