Idiots who shouldn't carry

I was in the DMV waiting in a long line to get my license tabs renewed. The line was moving rather slowly. In front of me in the line was a long-haul trucker. He related a story of another time he was at the DMV in a slow moving line. He said that he had been in line for several hours when he finally walked out of line and up to the counter. He told one of the DMV workers that she had better get the line moving faster. The worker asked why. He then lifted his shirt to reveal a pistol. The worker said, "You can't bring that in here!" It turns out that the trucker had a federal CCW. (Is there really such a thing? This is the second long-haul trucker I have heard say that they have one. They both say they are required to carry because of the loads they haul.) He chuckled and told us that the lines started moving real fast after that.

Idiots like this shouldn't carry. Not just that what he did is foolish and illegal, but it makes the rest of us look like a bunch of nuts. It is too bad he wasn't hauled off to jail for brandishing.

It would boil my blood if I ever saw someone display their concealed firearm just to intimidate or bully people. I would immediately call the Police and have them double check this "federal CCW" of theirs.

As far as I know, there is no such thing as federal CCW. I could be wrong. But what I do know is that most CCW/CCH laws are state-regulated. If I am right, this trucker is not only an idiot, but has broken the law.

Finally, the only instance that I personally know of federal truck drivers allowed to carry firearms are those who transport nuclear warheads. And I believe they're issued with the M-16 or variant. Not sure about pistol.

Regardless, this is just plain wrong.

Isn't that sort of harrassment? I would feel intimidated if I were any of those people in line. Was it a threat if they didnt move faster was he going to use it? What was the point of showing it to anyone? You are right people like him shouldn't carry.

I think that sort of foolishness goes beyond harrassment; it sounds more like a terroristic threat. That sounds like one individual who definitely does not need to trusted with a concealed carry permit. Also, I've been told by an ATF agent that there is no such thing as a "federal concealed carry permit".

There's no such thing as a Federal Concealed Carry permit.

However, there is a tiny chance that the bozo might have been a Special Deputy Marshal--in which case his Marshal needs to be contacted about this bozos actions.

I don't know where that trucker pulled that stunt, but I do know that if he did that here. He would be greeted by the police so fast he would be wondering what happened as he was on his way to the lock up.

I have a neighbor who is a very senior Secret Service agent. There is no Federal CCW. Because of who he works for, he can carry pretty much whatever he needs, where ever he is while on duty. On a commercial aircraft, he still has to fill out the FAA carry forms and show cause, though, and he has a VA CCW for off duty, and is otherwise subject to state laws when off duty. OTOH, he seems to know everybody who's anybody, and I have little doubt that he'd recieve 'professional courtesy' most anywhere he went.

Back on topic, that trucker was an idiot, tough a lucky one that the dumb clerk didn't make a fuss. M2

First, being a trucker telling you a story of "another time", I doubt he did what he said. I also doubt he even had a firearm on him. If he lied about having a Federal CCW he made the whole thing up IMO. Afterall, why did he tell you about "another time" when he could have just shown you how to do it NOW in that slow moving line.

I agree with Hicap. Sounds like a big bunch of BS to me. Pull that in a DMV office anywhere, you'd probably be living UNDER the jail. Loudmouth blowhard.

I am sure that that there is no federal ccw permit. HOWEVER, the NRC and DOD have stuff sent by truck under contract that is considered 'sensitve' material. The trucks are easily recognized because they are only the tractor part (bobtails for those truckers and CB'ers out there) and have what looks like a box or chest mounted behing the cab. It is entirely possible that those drivers could legally carry if they are under a court order from a federal magistrate to provide security for their 'cargo'. Some larger shipments are sent in white trucks with white trailer and are escorted by a van and a couple of black Surburbans. Those driver are armed also, but I believe that they are actual DOD employees.

Here's a few more of the people who shouldn't be allowed to carry firearms:

1. My ex-wife.
2. The Presidential protection detail of the Secret Service (unless they have manufacturer installed safety locks that are engaged until fired upon, which case they can just "dis-engage" the locks and then shoot back).
3. Ted Kennedy, and Chuck Schumer's body guards.
4. Sarah Brady and her ilk.

True, there is no such thing as a federal carry permit, however, the ATF has found a way....
I know a fellow who used to help train "special units" of gov't forces, both military and LEO. He routinely traveled around the country in a van filled with guns of all types, ammo, explosives...even a robotic device armed with shotgun and/or SMG. He had a letter from the ATF asking for LEO cooperation in letting him go about his business. This did not keep him from being arrested, however. On several occasions, he was stopped and had to spend the remainder of the weekend in jail until the locals could get in touch with AFT in DC and verify his bona fides. Then he would be released, no confiscation.
Where there's a will, there's a way....(or a codicil, if you're a lawyer. ;))

If he was a Marshall - he would not have done that... And paperwork for his truck and permit would have been cleared out from another office. That stuff goes "Upstairs" - and if it was in Virginia, that would be 6th floor at the end of the hall, behind that closed door.
