Identifying the serial number on this gun

Hi.
I'm looking at a pretty old, six chamber revolver, that looks a LOT like a S&W Military and Police revolver, with the regular oval shaped front sight.
Some of the specifications are:
Calibre consistent with .38,
Rifling 5R (same as a Smith and Wesson)

Stamped on the underside of the tapered barrel are :V 59795? P
and the numbers above are also stamped on the back face of the cylinder (the face closest to the firing pin and frame).

Stamped on the inside of the sideplate and the inside of the crane/yoke are the numbers 5077?

Also stamped on the frame opposite the inner yoke are the
number 3
5077?

Barrel length, 4 inches, overall length 9 1/8 inches.
I'm not sure if there was a number on the butt of the firearm, but if there was it may have been erased.
What I would like to know is which of the numbers correspond to the serial number, and has anyone come across any firearms similar to this?
And woudl the number stamped on the butt (if there was a number stamped there, correspond to a different number than those listed above?

NOTE THE QUESTION MARK DENOTES A NUMBER THAT I CHOSE NOT TO PUT in.

The V prefix suggests a Victory revolver, which is an M&P (as you suggest) in wartime military finish.
The number on the yoke and crane is an assembly number, not the SN.
Yes, the SN should also be on the butt and the inside of one of the smooth walnut grips (right, I think).
There should also be a US property stamp on the top strap, and a hole in the butt for a lanyard ring.
The chambering should be stamped on the right side of the barrel.
