Identify My "Dream" Gun

Ok, the cartridges of my dream, really. ;)

So, I had this dream the other night wherein I was hunting. The gun I carried was an 1873 Winchester but it was chambered in SEVERAL cartridges....

One was 7mm-08, no surprise since it's my favorite.... the other two were most curious and probably don't really exist but I wonder if the vast TFL knowledge base can come up with something close....

The first was what looked like a .30-30 but it had a HUGE wide rim and appeared to be rimfire. Like a 30-30 case with a quarter sized rim.

The other was a shotgun shell but it was shorter and MUCH fatter than 12ga. It seemed about 1 3/4 inches long, maybe a little less, and at least as big around as a 50 cent piece.

Any ideas?:D

Interesting!

It did look a lot like that but the rim was quite a bit bigger...

and the DEC officer in my dream told me the rifle was an 1873 Winchester.:D;)

I don't do anchovies.... or pineapple.... on pizza.:)

Wasn't it you that replied to a thread about a wide-rimmed, rimfire cartridge not too long ago?

I wonder if that's where I got the idea.

You gotta admit, an 1873 in 7mm-08 would be pretty cool.:D The polymer tipped bullets I was loading might be a problem though....

Close.

It was a Maynard .50. They had a very large rim, but were not rimfire. They were externally primed (separate percussion cap on a nipple) like the Burnsides.

Here is your shotgun shell. I believe it's diameter is larger than the barrel of an 1873 so I don't know how you could make it work, but that's what dreams are for.

The Maynard .50, yes, I remember now. The cartridge in my dream was like that .348Win with a Maynard .50 rim. :)

What is that shotshell? The size looks close but the one in my dream was red plastic and birdshot. it looked like a short, fat Winchester Super-X.
