Idea for Sights for USPSA

I am starting to shoot competitively and have decided to use a Springfield XD 5" .45. I am not fond of the basic sights that came with it and want some advice on what to consider replacing them with. I am leaning towards the TruGlo Fiber Optic sights without the Tritium inserts. Anybody have a better suggestion?

Thanks for your help,

If your eyes are good or fully corrected, most folks prefer a rather fine fibre optic front sight. Dawson is a good one, although I don't know if they make one for the XD.

Fiber optic in the front post with the two rear posts all black, although that's a personal preference. I don't like to clutter up my sight picture with three dots, and (personally) I've found that my eye finds the front fiber optic and aligns it much quicker with the two all-black back posts.

I am intrigued by the tritium-fired FO sights, but unless you are shooting at night, you don't need the tritium. I like the Dawson FO front and Heinie rear.

On my 5" XD .45 I put the Advantage sites
My 61 year old eyes need all the help they can get. I have four .45s that I use in USPSA and IPSC competition and they all have different sights. Fiber optics really help, I have them on two, I have SDMs on my 625. I'd like to put FOs on my 1911. They are fragil, so you have to be more careful.

Thanks for the help...

I like the Front Fiber Optic w/Black back idea. I also was intrigued by the Advantage Sights.

I really appreciate your ideas.

Fiber optic front, plain black rear on mine. I can really pick up the front sight very quickly with this arrangement. For me, dots on the rear sight make for too much clutter when all I want to see is the front dot.

I concur on FO front with a plain black rear. Dawson Precision does indeed make them for XDs. The sights I now have on my Glock are some of the finest I've ever used, Warren Tactical Sevigny sights, and they will soon be available for XDs as well. The front sight is the thinnest FO front you can get, be it all black, FO, or Tritium, and the sight picture is nice and uncluttered.

+1 on Dawson adj. rr w .100 fibre optic fr.

A couple GMs I used to shoot with would trade out their fiber optics for black fr/rr. Every major match they trade from 1 to the other. It helps them aquire the front site when it's changed frequently.

I have a SIG 226 with a tritium/FO front and I can tell you it is bright no matter the light level. The biggest advantage I can see with it is consistent illumination of the front sight no matter the light level.

I agree the consistent glow is an advantage, especially if you also shoot indoors. In my experience FO on its own needs a decent light to work well.

One caution which I guess can apply to any sight. I used the Tru'glo on my SigPro. It no longer shot dead on but low. I never figured out if they sent the wrong one or it was just not a factory match.

I have 57 year old eyes and need help. I shoot IDPA and just put Novak Fiber Optic sights on my S&W M&P. THREE BRIGHT dots really helped me!!
