Idea for new gun.

I want a new toy. And before anyone scolds me over the term toy, I know guns aren't toys. I got a decent work bonus and the wife has granted me permission lol to get one. Budget is about 650. The shops around here pretty much have the same stuff every time. You basic plethora of polymers and 1911's. I have a wide variety of carry guns and already have 3 1911's two of which were bought in the last 6 months. Give me some ideas. Most of my guns are 9mm and 45. So I'd like to stick with that although I'm open to 10mm. No 40 cal. 38 and 357 are eligible too as I own a Rossi 357.
I've looked at khar cm9 and sig p290 but don't know their quality. And also a wasr ak with 75 round drum but it seemed high priced at 620. I could always use another ar but fear the budget doesn't support. What are the verdicts on the 22 1911 or the 22 ak. Any other suggestions. Also what's the best 22 pistol for target that's not gonna eat the whole budget.

If you are looking for a "fun" gun I would go with a 10mm. I have an EAA witness and love it it is by far the funnest gun I have shot in a long time. There are many different levels of the witness. Some will tell you they are junk as at one time the did have slides cracking, but if you sent it in they replaced it with the next level up and you were good to go. The one I has not cracked so I believe they have figured out what ever was causing the slides to crack and fixed the problem.

What does a 50 round box of 10mm ammo run. The 10 mm may be a mute point as I have yet to see them around here even the glock variety. I've asked on them and all the shops say I'm the first to ask about one. Lol.

Order one from Buds or another online shop.

Order ammo from Georgia-Arms, Ammo-man or some other online shop. Better, start loading your own and get it CHEAP.

I see the cheap (price-wise) AK-22's but I have never fired one.

However, I can speak to the 1911 22lr as I recently purchased one after doing extensive research/shooting of different full-size .22lr pistols. I decided on the GSG 1911 22 (same as the SIG 1911 22) as I really liked the idea of a cheap ammo 1911 trainer model (it's spot on mirror-like a 1911 .45 ACP). Could not be happier with mine and would definitely recommend it. I lot of people are concerned about it, the M&P, Ruger etc. .22lr as they do not have "steel" slides. The only one I know of (full-size) that does is the RIA 1911 22 but it's a $600 gun and I have not shot or read any reviews of it. In the mid-size range, the Bersa .22lr also is an all-steel platform.

CZ Kadet pistol would make an excellent 22 fun gun. It has nice adjustable sights and is very well made. It's available as a stand alone pistol or as just the upper if you already have a CZ 75.

You already have some 45s and 9mms so why not get a Ruger Blackhawk in 357/9mm or 45colt/45acp. Not gonna find many guns more fun to shoot than a SA revolver

.22LR - Browning Buckmark Bullseye with blue fluted barrel - not on their website but may still be available.
Have you considered reloading equipment.

38 and 357 are eligible too as I own a Rossi 357.

For $650 you should be able to buy a new L-Frame 686. Best bang for your buck in that price range. Well built, reliable, accurate and backed by a lifetime warranty by a company with CS second to none. Unlike the plastic guns, entry level 1911s and the Rossi, your grandkids will fight over it when you're gone.

+1 Davidson's .45Colt/.45ACP convertible New Vaquero or Talo New Vaquero Birdshead .45ACP (the latter = 3.75" bbl)--also available in just .45 Colt, but since you have ACP it'd make sense. Also maybe a Montado .357--a special short barreled New Vaquero model with SBH-profile hammer similar to the above Birdshead.
(Note, in the past two years even Ruger and its distributors are inexplicably calling everything just Vaquero. All current production are the midframe New Vaqueros--even the .44 Sp though it uniquely among NVs says just Vaquero on the frame--with the very occasional exception of limited/exclusive distributor-only runs of the old large frame Vaquero.).

Got one.

Well I got a new gun. Picked up a new stainless ruger new model blackhawk in 45lc. Has adjustable sights and the shorter barrel length 4.5 inches maybe. Don't believe I got any great deal but I liked it. Got it for 539. Now my question is I've seen some labeled convertible. This one isn't. Am I able to convert it to 45acp by just buying a new cylinder. I got this cause I already have a beretta stampede in 45lc. I'll post pictures later.

Little pricey (that's so subjective) but I like what I see here.

I just picked up a Talo New Vaquero in .45 Colt, and it does seem like it will be a fun little gun.

OP might be better off with the .45ACP variant. OTOH, I am now considering cowboy action shooting for the first time, and I don't know if ACP would be legal for that.

How 'bout a couple of RUGER 22/45's for you and
your wife to plink with?

:D

...bein' she gave you permission and all, she'd be very surprised that you bought a PAIR for the two of you to enjoy shooting...aw-wwww!
Ain't that a Brownie Points Maker?!

In your price range you can find a really nice S&W M-19 4", everyone should have at least one classic Smith and Wesson in their collection.

I think to add a 45acp cylinder to your new 45colt you will have to buy a cylinder and have a gunsmith get the timing right on it.

At one time I believe you could buy the cylinder from Ruger and have them time it for you. Not sure if they still do, but it would not hurt to call them. Either way I do not think it will be cheap.

I have a single six in 22lr only and hive considered getting a 22 mag cylinder for it. Shopping for just the 22mag cylinder it seems that they run $100 or more then the cost of the gunsmith. I would imagine the 45acp would be even more.

But don't fret, what you have is a super sweet gun :)
