Immunity for businesses that allow employees to keep guns in cars passes Idaho House.

The Idaho House passed a bill that would provide immunity from civil action for businesses that allow employees to keep guns in their cars while at work.
After more than 45 minutes of debate, during which several questions about House Bill 287 were raised, the measure passed 50-19.

“This legislation is to encourage employers to have a policy. This immunity is strictly for employers that will go forward with that policy,” said Idaho Falls Republican Jeff Thompson, the bill’s sponsor.

The bill would also provide immunity for businesses that do “not prohibit the lawful storage of firearms by employees in their personal motor vehicles.”

The bill now heads to the Senate.
