What are the markings/proof markings. Is there any type of name? It has the lines of either French or Belgium. From the position of the hammer it looks either pin fire or percussion, which is it if either?

Although not an Adams revolver IMO it certainly has that profile. Perhaps a period copy? I like the look of this one a lot actually. A nice piece.

Its a French or Belgian made pinfire revolver. Probably made in the 1870war to 1880the timeframe.

There will be proofmarks on it that will tell you for sure.

Could be a Lefaucheux, or a copy "in the style of" the Lefaucheux.

French, Belgian, maybe even Spanish---as Mike said the proof marks
will tell the tale. I'm going to guess--somewhere on it is a oval
with the letters E.L.G. in it. (Leige Belgium).

Good eye Mike. I over looked the significance of where the hammer strikes. Not anywhere near an Adams I guess....

It is not a hard and fast rule, but there were very few pinfire or large caliber rimfire revolvers made in England by anyone. By the time the pinfire came out, British makers had gone to the center fire for large (over .22) caliber.

I, too, will bet on the "oval E L G" being present on that gun. While normally, those don't bring much, I would expect one like that to sell for around $800 or more.
