IAI M1 carbine rear sight question

Took a look at this rifle today and noticed that the rear sight is adjustable for elevation by sliding the peep sight up and down along a little ramp. It seems to be a little loose too when I pushed it from side to side with my finger. Checked another rifle and they were both the same. Question is does this movement of the rear peep affect its accuracy from shot to shot? Other than that I was tempted to pick one up.

I think IAI uses U.S. GI rear sights. This looseness is normal. Since the peep has a spring loaded ball underneath, this doesn't really effect accuracy, since the peep tends to return to the same position.
However, remember that the carbine was not intended to be a target or even a service rifle. It was intended to be a replacement for the pistol for service troops.
Most carbines do shoot well. Buy one, their a lot of fun, and make a good defense gun to boot.

I agree........

Buy it you will not be disappointed! I have one and love it! One tip though. I went to clean it up after a range session and wiped the rear sight down with CLP and the white in the numbers came off:eek: No big deal. You can still see them. A little white out and a quick wipe with a rag restored the white to them easily. Another + is that high cap mags abound and are dirt cheap! I found some with the original red wax wrap on them! darogue1: Brownell's sell a product called Laquer-Stik. This is a crayon-like stick that is used to fill lettering in the military and in machine shops. It comes in Red, White, Blue, Gold and Black. To use, you scrape the end off with a knife blade to expose fresh material, and rub it into the lettering. Let dry for a few minutes, and rub off the excess with a bit of solvent on a paper towel. Let it dry for a few hours, and it won't come off easily, with CLP or anything else.
