IAI Garand (M333) - any good?

I know that non-original Garands are reputed to be poor. However, is that bad rep limited to Century products? I am very happy with the IAI M1 carbine, wondering if anyone has tried their Garands.

I don't believe that these are available yet. Can anyone confirm this? I'm very interested to know what the price will be.

Complaints I've seen have been either:
  • For the extra price, why not buy a piece of history? (CMP purchase implied.)
  • They're cast, not forged like the original. Therefore not as strong.
  • Century's geometry is far enough off to be dangerous
Only the first 2 apply to non-Century receivers. IMHO the originals aren't that expensive...

dzeanah,

Concerning the Century M1's.....

Why pay $400 for a rifle that is basically built up from de-milled Danish M1 import kits, and has a newly manufactured receiver that is highly suspect with regard to function and safety, when for the same $400 you can buy a Danish M1 direct from CMP and get the genuine USGI receiver along with the CMP's excellent reputation for service and customer satisfaction.

For $500, you can get an all US parts, USGI rifle.

Re the function & safety of the new aftermarket M1 receivers... see the safety inspection report of one of these on the Fulton Armory site. Reads like a grocery list of poor workmanship. Very Scary indeed.
I certainly wouldn't want to be behind one of these and pull the trigger.......

Just my 2 cents....
