Sure would look beautiful mounted. I wonder what countries you can hunt them in??

I was really surprised to see one of these living here in Oregon.

.

Those things are domestic animals, and can be purchased online. they are sold at some larger farm supply stores, and can be purchased as ducklings, or older. I see no reason that you can't find either a mounted one for sale, or find a breeder who will collaborate with a taxidermist for you.

You could always buy the little ones, put a coop up, and raise them yourself. Raising ducks is a gas. I love them.

I'm sorry, it is a mandarin duck. They are related to the wood duck, and it appears that they are also to be found in the wild in very small numbers, like the wood duck. They are cavity nesters.

An interesting thing to note, is that 5 years ago, I actually found a dead duck in the flue of my chimney as I repaired the damper. It was by all appearances, a wood duck. The chimney pots are ceramic, and have a total of 4 openings that are horizontal.

I cannot explain why i had a dead duck in my chimney. Weird stuff like this just seems to follow me.

They had these things in the ponds at audubon gardens, in memphis, and we used to go feed the things once in a while. They are, absolutely, stunning.

Bass pro in springfield mo had a family of wood ducks living in an indoor stream. Also absolutely stunning. They are far more beautiful, IMO, than any of the breeds of pheasant.

Do what I did. Look around for a lifesize decorative decoy of the bird and buy it. Looks great, no legality involved and is much easier to dust.

Mandarin ducks are not native to the USA, they are Eurasian. I am sure you could buy a mounted specimen somewhere online.

According to Wikipeda there is population in Sonoma County, California. Since they're not native maybe you can.

Sure does give the wood duck a run for its money,,,,,,both excellent looking ducks.

This duck was photographed swimming in a pond in a local city park where people feed ducks.

Could it have been a domestic duck that escaped into the wild? Or did it fly to Oregon from Eurasia??

I can only wonder.

I naturally could not shoot the duck, since it was inside a city park. Although last year three basketball players from the University were arrested at this same pond at this city park, for shooting ducks with pellet rifles. All they received were some small fines, probation, and community service, though, as the authorities never found any dead duck bodies.

Here is a news story about that shooting incident at this park last year:

It amazes me how stupid some of our student athletes are .

Wow

...and I thought the Mandarin Women looked good, I should really have traveled more than Heineken distance from the ship!

I think it looks better there in the pond. Beautiful. If it was/is a legitimategame bird, in season, that's different, but in a city park, swimming? nah, leave it be, and enjoy the view.

I think that a bird has a 10,000% beauty advantage over anything on the planet except reef fish for sheer stunning beauty.

Seriously, compare even a sparrow, with it's lovely earth tones, to a manatee.

I'd shoot a manatee just because it is as ugly as a wart hog's tootie hole. Something that ugly needs to die.
