I Was Sweet Talked Into Building an AR ... Need Advice.

So, the wife decided that she wants me to build 2 ARs. I bought 2 Lower Receivers from a buddy that bought them at the last gun show, and decided to not build them. They are ATI brand, and I went out and got 2 DPMS complete lower receiver kits today at the local shop. $100 for 2 lowers ... I didn't feel like I could pass that up.

What else do I need?

Do I just need 2 buttstock assemblies and 2 complete uppers? Is it that simple?

I just started building one with some old parts, and have a book on how to build one, and picked up some of the other parts needed. I would post some pics have taken them through the steps, still can’t post them on this forum have been trying to figure it out.

The uppers are more difficult made one last year, found some good clips on U-Tube, and have all the tools required. It is good building them, as you can customize them how you want.

Yes, it is very easy. AR15.com has some stickys pictorial instructions on DIY builds of lowers. Take your time, nothing should need much force. A few simple tools are all that you need (see their list). The detent tool is inexpensive and works very quickly. Suggest you get a roll pin punch (I think 1/8" ? for the trigger guard) as well as a regular pin punch.

Some lowers may have a slight bur on the pivot pin holes edges. If so the pin will not go through easily. In that case use a small file or rolled fine sandpaper to lightly debur it. Don't try to force a pin through a hole.

I've built DPMS, CMT, and Rock River arms lowers using DPMS, RRA and CMMG LPKs and all went together well, and I am not an AR15 expert by any means (if I could do it I am sure any moneky could as well).

I remember tearing them down for service cleaning when I was in the Corps, but I never got into taking everything apart.

I'll look into the ar15.com site, and check it out. Thanks for the input.

Caution - Many of the small springs look similar. AR15.com has a nice pic and names to ALL lower components.
I'll see if I can attach here. Attach didn't work for me!

Tried again to attach image that I recall was from AR-15.com:

I beleive if you check on MidwayUSA, there is a complete break down of the whole gun, if you just need assembly references. Your girl is definately a keeper though!
