I have a Savage Model 10 FCP in .308 Win thats topped with a BSA Panther scope. The BSA has been working for me for almost 3 years now but I just want some change. The power range I want is 6-24X40 or 6-24X50. It has to have either a mil-dot or bullet drop compensating reticle, and under $700. What would you guys suggest?

I've been hearing good things about Vortex scopes. may want to look into those.

And I think Millett makes a mil/mil tactical scope in your magnification range.

I agree, the 4200's are very nice.

SS have a very good reputation too - especially value wise.

Can you be flexible on your power range you are wanting? The reason I ask is you can get some really great scopes if you look for under $700 but they will not be the 6-24 power range. Right now over on the Sample List, you can pick up a Leupold MK4 tactical 4.5-14X40 30mm tube with target turrets for less than your budgeted price. Midway USA has a Weaver Tactical 3-10X40 on sale for $300.

To get a scope that has a 20X power range or greater will push you outside the money you are budgeting if you want a good scope. I wouldn’t trust the BSA as suggested; I ran one for years without problem on a rifle in 6-24X50. Then one day I slipped and fell while out coyote hunting and that was the end of the scope it lost zero and couldn’t be re-zeroed. Besides the optics were terrible when you started getting around 18Xanyway so I could never use it at the full 24X.

swfa.com has the vortex crossfire 6-24-50mm for 100 bucks. i own two, and while i can't say they compare to a 2000 dollar scope, i like them. they maintain zero and the clarity is better than just about any similar priced scope. plus they have the best warranty in the business.

Two months ago, I installed a Bushnell 4200 6-24x50mm front focal plane illuminated mil-dot recticle w/ mil-turrets on my new Savage 10 FCP HS-Precision. The optic was was $710 delivered to my door and came from Midway USA.

I've had the combo at the range a few times now....working up some hand loads for it. I can't be happier with it. I am completely satisfied with the optic.

I have a Millet 6-25x56mm scope with a 30mm tube and a side focus on my 10 FP and it really performs as well and looks mean.

It is bright, has no apparent parallax and my groups have reduced since I bought it. The best thing is that it cost under $ 440. That should fit your budget.

I have a 6-24x40mm 4200 Bushnell on my 22-250 and although it is a great scope in its own right and works well on the .22-250, I think the Millet is the right scope for my 10 FP. I switch scopes around a lot and now that the Millet is on the 10 FP that is where it will stay.

Thats for all the suggestions folks, I have a few months before I can buy one but I will surely post pics when I do.

Well I have to throw in the Sightron SIII 6-24x50.

I have alot of optics on many rifles, and after getting one of these scopes I've come to the conclusion that these are a steal for what you get in optic quality, tracking ability, long range turret adjustment=100MOA,and warranty.

I have 2 of these scopes-mounted on a 308 and 25/06,they both perform as good as the Swarovski PH scope that I have on a 300WM that cost around 2K.

For just a little more than your top price, you can get a scope that you will really like, and it will do everything that you want in a scope.
