I wanna shoot IDPA

Ankeny

New member
I have never shot IDPA and I am itching to give it a try. There are no formal IDPA shoots here in Wyoming. I checked with IDPA and there are two places to shoot, but one is law enforcement only and the other doesn't have sanctioned matches.

I am willing to travel to southern Montana, say the Billings area or as far south as Ft. Collins, CO or Boulder. Any contact information you guys could provide would be appreciated. In particular, I would like to shoot the qualifier and one match just to get the feel of the game. Thanks.

I hope you find a place to shoot. I imagine Tennessee is too far for you to go. We are very lucky here. Several clubs within an hours drive. I would shoot every weekend if the wife would let me.

Maybe get together with a range or a club and start your own IDPA club.

I noticed that Texas and Tennessee have the largest number of clubs per state.

I like John am lucky enough to be in a place that I can shoot every week (and do) or even more then once a week.

Still have the M8 ,still going strong.

DO it!! Its a gas!!

Next front range IDPA shoot is in Idaho Springs, but the following one will be northwest of Fort Collins at Owl Creek range.

loknload,

Go to www.idpa.com, look under club information. There should be a listing for each state.

John, I carry:

1911 w/ optic-rod front/ghost-ring rear sights

or

5.5" stainless Redhawk(s)

or

Glock M20 w/grip reduction, safety parts 'modified'

or

EAA Witnesses in 9x19, 41AE, 38 Super, safety parts removed

and

an 'always' 22

although

I just reviewed the IDPA rules and noticed I could compete with one of my GP100's, but I don't carry them now that I carry the Redhawks.

sigh........guess I'll just have to keep shooting USPSA..........

Just read my post. Seems like I should settle on one gun, eh?

LOL

If I did it'd be my 45ACP.

WESHOOT2,

That is a nice list to settle on. :) Life is full of hard decisions. Sounds like I need to go shoot with you, and help you with this difficult decision. :)

Oh, you'd like my safe!

Shooting tomorrow, USPSA match, outside (snowing 4-8" inches tonight/tomorrow).

Wonder what I'll be shooting ('cause I'm not chasing brass!)?

Did I mention I'm in Vermont?

Thanks folks. I will contact one of the guys with the front range group. I'll try to get to Ft. Collins this spring. Thought about tying to start something here, but about all we have is cowboy shooters.

There is no IDPA/IPSC in Billings right now. I hope to change that. There WAS an IPSC group at the range which will likely become my "home" range, but they were run off by a bunch of benchrest shooters who dominate the place, I was told by another member. They apparently thought that combat shooters gave the place an unseemly air. What the heck? I though we shooters...ALL of us... were supposed to stick together?

There is an active IPSC club just W of Bozeman, run by the Manhattan Wildlife Assn, at their Logan, MT range. They are just starting IDPA matches this season. I've e-mailed and spoken to one of the members who serves as match director for some or all of the matches. He is a very nice and helpful guy named GREG RABATIN. His phone # is 406/284-3391, and his e-mail is [ rabatin@ycsi.com ]. He will be glad to answer your questions and mail you some info I'm sure.

The IDPA match schedule there is:
Fri May 26 7pm (night match)
Sat May 27 11am
Weds Jun 7th 7pm
Sun July 30 1pm
Sun Aug 27th 1pm
Sat Sept 16th 7pm
Sun Sept 17th 1pm
