I wanna Display My Toys!

I am tired of digging through cases to find guns, I really want to be able to look at them.

I live in a Condo. Both main entrances are secure and require key or codes to enter. The garage works with a transmitter.

Im on the second floor, so one would have to ladder in. We keep, FWIW, a bar on the balcony door.

I have two deadbolts on the front door. No burglar alarm.

What do you guys think...I would be displaying mostly handguns, or objects d'art as I tell SWMBO.

I say go for it. I first bought my safe to protect my son and his friends and it now serves to protect my investment from thieves. It sounds like your digs are secure, so let's see'em.

Been a decade since I lived up there, but I would figure there are plenty of neighborhoods still where that wouldnt be an issue, as long as they're not clearly visible from the street through the windows. Then again, I lived next door to the chief of police at the time. So my perceived level of safety was probably elevated :D

On a side note, sadly I did not get time to swing by Wild West, last week while I was up there.

You need a glass gun safe...

Growing up, we had the pretty guns in a wooden gun cabinet with glass doors. The cabinet doors were locked, the house doors not so much. I'd go for it.

If you feel the chances of theft are very, very minimal, I would go for it. I wish my security level was such that I could keep my pistols out of the safe. it just seems a shame to lock up a pretty woman or a beautiful work of art that some pistols happen to be.

Ken, you have to follow your heart man!

If I am not in my house, I am somewhere on my property 90% of the time. I hate driving and avoid running in to town unless I have to. (Retirement is nice) Someone is always around.

I do not advertise when I will be out, and on those rare occasion I will be away for more than a few hours, I lock everything up in safes and cabinets.

I have one room in the house that is mine (All Mine!). Depending on what I am doing, it is called The Gun Room, The Reloading Room or the Computer Room. Either way, when I walk in to that room, I want to see my guns. I have them in glass front gun cabinets, on a rack above my desk and hanging on the walls.

I walk in to that room and I can say "I am MAN!, Look at my toys!"

Funny how that seemed to be the way things were - rifles and shotguns were also left in the window racks of pickups with no worry of theft

WA - friend had is trophy house built (and I mean for trophies as in safari heads) It is written up in a SCI book about trophy rooms. One spot he has is for handguns - he had a custom glass case made, green felt on the back, wooden pegs to hold the guns, and they are arranged in a symmetrical pattern with some African safari souvenirs arranged as well. Looks nice, I bet you could do the same with some Alaskan artifacts

Good luck

I would just be worried if a repair man or any other outsider that might just come in for a misc reason. Then some random person would know what you have there. And then tell some one or come back themselves.

By an alarm,,,

Even if you already have the condo alarmed,,,
Buy a second one just for that room.

And replace the normal door/frame,,,
With a steel security door & frame.

I hear ya my friend,,,
I miss when I was a teenager,,,
And had all my cool stuff out on display.

Does the condo associations repair person have a key to gain entry ( for a possible plumbing leak)????????????? In the end they are your belongings so do as you wish, for me I say no. ( I don't trust anyone buy the wife)

When I was a teenager that was the case as well. I went off to California for a few years. When I returned I didn't see any any more and was informed that most people quit doing that as pickups kept getting broken into and the shotgun (occasionally rifle, almost invariably a .30-.30) were stolen. :(

I think it would be neat to have floor to ceiling bookcases on one wall of the room where the bookcases swing out to reveal your 'wall of guns'.

He'll just be a shark tank and monocle away from becoming a Bond villain. :D

Odd, I'm a repairman and 90% of the homes I do repairs are empty, folks have to work. I wouldn't even think of looking around and when I see a gun cabinet it would not even worth a second glance, it would be the same as "taking a thong panties out of a pump while the wife is watching and wondering just why her just out of warranty washer stopped and is not working, you just do your job put them off to the side and she has gone through 17 different shades of red ... its not a big deal....and was happy it didn't need a new expensive pump" and go on to the next. I and lock the door on your way out. Maybe its different because I own my business.

But I guess it a different world out there I just know here in the midwest your word and your work is what makes your business. Lower prices are also a plus. I guess it would be like if a person thinks of it would they do it? If no one was looking? integrity is a must when doing repair business.

I used to live on the 14th floor of a condo high rise. No way in but the front door. Problem was that it was a condo association rule that maintenance people have a key.

One day the front door opened while I was home and I thought it was maintenance, although I did not recall any issues in my unit. Surprised three armed crooks in the entry way and they unloaded on me. I nearly died that day. They did not hit any major organs but I was bleeding more blood than I thought the human body held.

They cleaned out my condo of everything valuable that was not in my safe. All my guns were in the safe. I have since moved where no one has a key to my house. I have a state of the art alarm system with a dog as an early warning system. Large dogs were not authorized in the condo. And...I have guns either on me or hidden about the house or both at all times.

I would not recommend leaving anything of value in any place where you are not 100% in control of who has a key.
