I took my girlfriend to the range last night for the first time

It was her first time. Now I have created a Monster. Here are a few snippets of the Conversation:
Her" I'm nervous"
Me "Its ok how about i just load one round"
Her "Ok" BANG in the eight eight at seven yards. She lets me pop off 13 rds and wants to try again. So I load five rounds for her. Most go in the eight ring. I shoot 13 more. She decides she wants to shoot more so I put up a fresh target and load ten for her.
3 in the ten ring the rest in eight or nine.
Twenty minutes after we get home she ask if we can again on Thursday. She won't let me buy her a hawgleg of her own yet. Basically that my conversion story. She went from a fence sitter to a Deadeye who wants to shoot competition in a few months. And she is an elementry school teacher. All it took patience and Sig 228

It funny how just firing a weapon turns you into a 'gun-nut' and not some sociopath. Maybe guns can 'do' something. :D

Glad you and your SO had a good time.

I just want to know what it took to get her to go. My GF is a sharp minded and right thinking kinda gal... I just can't talk her into a trip to the range.

Any tips or tricks that you found to be effective for less than the cost of diamonds? :)

One tip: Safety/practicality

My wife knew I carried a weapon sometimes and that it lived in the bedside table at night. She had no real problem with that, but also had no real interest. I convinced her by taking the safety route. First I showed her my Glock, taught her the four rules, and showed her how it functioned. Then I left it up to her. Every time I went to the range I would tell her about it when I got back and tell her she was always welcome to go with me. I used to get questions like "Why do you go shoot? What's in it for you? Do you get some perverted thrill out of it?" To those type of questions I would answer "No, I just believe that if you carry a deadly weapon, you need to be proficient with it." She then began to wonder "What would I do if I needed to use your gun?"

Finally one Sat. she says "Can we go to the range today?" Five rounds and she was hooked. Damn good shot, too. :D

She now carries a Taraus 38. I certainly wouldn't want to be the BG who tries to carjack her!!! ;)

LOL,

Rob

Well, as one of the token "classic liberal" hippies who post here, I try to spread the word...

A while back I was dating a young lady who was a bit more to the left than I - She was sure that firearms were the cause of crime, etc... I finally convinced her to go shooting, because "knowledge is power," and that she should know what to do if she ever had to use a firearm ("it's better to know, and never need the knowledge..."), or if she had to unload one, etc...

On the way to the range: "You mean you've got a gun in the car? Isn't that illegal? What if it goes off?" etc...

At the indoor range, I took her into one of the classrooms, and using the wall charts, etc., explained the safety rules to her, and showed her how to make sure a revolver and an automatic were empty and safe. Explained sight pictures, etc.

Then we hit the firing line, and I started her with a 10/22. Then a heavy .357 with .38 special wimp loads... Then the .45 with target loads... Then the .45 with real loads... And she wouldn't give it back... She decided she wanted her own 9mm, but that "it should kick as much as the .45..." She was also a very good instinctive shot...

I'm a pusher, and my drug is guns... Give 'em a taste, and they'll be back...

I started her with the Red Ryder BB gun out on my parents propety. I asked her if we could go together sometime and she said yes, this was awhile ago. I also have suggested that at sometime we go with one of my coworkers and his wife. She argreed but wanted to go together before other people see her shoot. Yesterday morning I asked if she would like to go and she said yes. I really think it was pride and not wanting to look foolish in front of coworker and his wife. I am sure am glad she went and had fun though :D I just wish she would let me buy her a gun of her own.

I finally convinced my fiancee to go with me a year ago. We traded, I went rollerblading with her cause I hate it and she went shooting, I think I got the better deal :)
She out shot me with my mom's Tauraus M85, and with my AR she didn't do to well because she is left eye dominant but right handed, so she had the rifle cocked at an odd angle to sight it. I didn't realize at h time what she was doing so I didn't correct it. I left for boot camp before I got to take her again, unfortunatly. Bu she suprised me last week on the phone, she told me that when I come home for leav in Nov, I have to take her shooting again...That is one order I won't question for a minute :)

my wife is the same way left hand right eye. put a burris red dot (or use another)
on the car-15 she shoots. now it;s just a matter seeing if all her shots are in the x-ring (at 26yds) and if not all other rounds are center mass. friends wife likes the target aquisition as well. just a thought.

Just wanted to brag...My girlfriend went to Thunder Ranch a coupla months ago. Now she and Clint S. are big pals. Sure wish I could afford to go...

At this point in time, I am quite ticked off that I wrote a nice paragraph braggin' about my girlfriend yesterday and it apparently did not make it.

At any rate... I feel your pain. :D
