I think we should try something other than democracy

I think it's time for this country to move away from democracy.

I prefer a system of government based on strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords.

Or maybe an anarcho-syndicalist commune . . . .

Deanf,

Strange women, lyin' in ponds is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power is derived by a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony...

But then, you knew that didn't you..? ;)

Chris..

A Constitutional Republic is the ONLY form of Government I support.

Anyone claiming to be King here in the US other than Elvis will catch a 185 grain Cor-Bon.

That would be a change...

I mean, the way things have been for the past 8 years, a Constitutional Republic WOULD be a new form of Government.

What we've had is executive fiat, judicial activists, and politically-charged rulings from the Justice department that serve to cover the Chief Executive's butt.

Rule of law and adherence to the Constitutions would be a refreshing change.

I don't think we have a true democracy. 100 million people not registered to vote ??? Only 51% turnout of the eligible voters ???

Those people who didn't vote should be ashamed of themselves. George W could have had a landslide, if all of us who wanted to vote republican did vote.

We could choose to make it considerably easier for people to vote by allowing walk-up registration or at least less of a lead-time required. We certainly have the technology available to check people's residencies instantly so the advance registration serves no real purpose other than deliberately reducing the number of voters. Make it easier for people to vote and you have more participation.

We could also institute Instant Runoff Voting that would allow people to rank their choices then, if no one gets a majority on the first count, automatically eliminate the bottom vote-earner and change those votes to the next choice. If no one has a lead at this point, repeat the previous steps until you have a winner. (For the record, this could be instituted on a state-level and would greatly increase the number of Libertarian (etc) voters without people "wasting" their votes.

Nah. The best form of government would be for you all to elect me benevolent dictator for life. Mine would be a firm but loving rule. There would be only four laws: you must contribute a flat percentage of your income to the government to provide for very limited services (i.e. infrastructure, military, law enforcement, internal security), you may take no action which infringes upon the rights of others without justification, you may not be cruel to animals or abuse (note, I said abuse, not use. Use is fine. Using it as a dumping ground isn't) the environment (given that such abuse necessarily infringes on the rights of others), and if you wish to enjoy the benefits of citizenship/residency, you will contribute to the nation (i.e. military service). All child molesters, rapists, and other subhuman scum would be eliminated in the most brutal and public manner possible.

Outside of that, it would be pretty much laissez faire. Want to hear my ideas on how the military would be organized? :)

Unless you know the ground speed of an unladen African swallow, you cannot be President. I think that's somewhere in the Constitution...

Help, help, I'm being repressed!

I think those that know what I'm talking about in my original post really, really know, and those that don't, really, really don't.

;)

Have you ever read the scripts without watching the movie? They make even funnier reading than they do watching. As Letterman would say "high-larious!"

KenPaul has it right..

Now we see the violence inherent in the system...

DeanF..

Yea, a buddy of mine has the scripts along with two volumes containing the scripts for all the TV shows.
My all time favorite is The Piranna Brothers..

"Doug and Dinsdale were born, on probation...."

"I've seen grown men tear their owns head off rather than speak with Doug.."

Just too funny..

deanf: No, I never have. I'll have to put that on my list of Things To Do In My Spare Time (unfortunately, that stack is getting pretty high. :()

Help, help! I'm being repressed! Indeed!

Script is here. Plus lots of other goodies.

And an anarcho-syndicalist commune would probably be preferable to AlGore, just to keep things sort of on-topic.
