I just shot my remington 870 express with synthetic stocks and 2 round extension today.

It was great!

The recoil was very light with the 2 3/4 inch shells I was using, but I am yet to fire 3 inchers. This firearm is so fun to shoot. It was completely worth the money, and the 2 months of waiting. I left to shoot with the impression that it was going to be an extremely hard recoiling, extremely loud, monster, but was completely wrong.

Anybody who doesnt have an 870, wich I am sure there are few of, should really get one.

That 870 well taken care of will last a lifetime. Grandfather has one from when they were first introduced, never cleaned it, shot the hell out of it, never lubed.

Still works like new!

BTW 3 inch shells aren't bad at all, I think recoil management is being prepared (not scared of it) and having a firm seat in the stock weld.

I've fired a 300 magnum for a few hours before I became a little raw one time.

Stick with the light loads for a few more sessions, get your form firmed up before trying the barnburners.

Great guns

I have a 20 gauge 870 express i absolutley love it. Shooting skeet is a absolute joy. :) Very little recoil. Lack of shot doesnt appear to be too much of a problem. Great guns just keep it clean and it will serve you well
 
Why would anybody put a 2 shot extension on a 870 it holds five how many more do you need :) I used to plug all my shotguns for three.You carry a shotgun all day with 5 or 7 rounds it can add up.For HD how many times do you want to shoot him :eek:
 
Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it-----nuff said???

which is recommended poly vs wood?
iv had 870 mag. wood but never handled a poly one.
give me some thoughts.........

The 870 is not the only good shotgun out there. You could say the same of the Winchester 1300, Mossberg 500,....
This is coming from someone who has shot, but not owned, an 870.

Give us a little history on the gun. Who built it for you that required the two month wait? I ordered mine from Scattergun Tech, and it should be shipped on Monday. Took about a month because of the shortage of SureFire Tactical fore-ends. Built from scratch on the Express. :)

It's just a plain old 870 HD that I ordered from Turners outdoorsman. When I went down there they said that it would take two weeks th get in because they just sold out and put in an order for new ones. I waited patiently for avout a month then I got anxious. Next thing you know it's been two months and they just got them in. Then I had to wait another ten days for it to get in.

Im guessing the two month wait was in referrence to saving up for it??

My local walmart carries them in stock. Which is about the cheapest you'll find new.
 
Stuff that thing with 2 ounce turkey loads and touch her off. That'll wake you up! :eek:

They are great guns and I wouldn't get rid of mine. ;)
 
I shot trap with a Remington 870 TB in Florida. Fired it 67,000 times before the firing pin return spring broke. I continued to fire it for 65,000 more rounds with NO breakdowns. I now have a Remington Express. The same as yours and I am more than satisfied with it. It ain't as Pretty as the TB Model but it is as serviceable. I shoot reloads with 1-1/8 oz shot and 16.5 gr Red-Dot. It is deadly on claybirds.

They are a truely great gun- nothing compares. YEARS ago, I was shooting small birds in a cherry orchard for a mate- great fun, FREE ammo- and I fired 5500 shells in 2 months...and cleaned the 870 once. The barrel was pretty gunked up with wad plastic , but that was it. Great guns.
 
Just make sure you clean the exterior parts of the shotgun other wise that thing will rust. But as everyone else hs pointed out, actually cleaning the "guts" of the gun, who cares? I've fired thousands of rounds out of mine and the only times I ever get in there, is after duck hunting over saltwater or if it gets dropped in the water. Since mine is a hunting shotgun, I'd deffiently say the synthetic is better.
P.S.- I must vouch for all Remington shotguns here. I've got an 11-87 that I never cleaned in 10 years that I used for every dove season and countless rounds of trap. The only malfunctions I ever had where with a certain type of ammo. Everything else fed just fine with no cleaning except wipping down the piston every two years or so. But I fina;;y broke down and cleaned it yesterday
