I SHOT a TAURUS RAGING BULL in .480 Ruger today...

:D HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY! :D
6 or 6 1/2" bbl. matte stainless steel ported.
I used a gel-palm fingerless glove that my late Brother used for steering his wheelchair...
BLAM! Big Grin :D ... BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! :p
That's 5, count 'em, 5 BLAMS!
I went back and shot a few more, then shared a round each with some youngsters that had shown up with some pretty impressive hardware of their own.
THEY were duly impressed with the .480 Ruger.
The comment was that the empty case weighed as much as a loaded .45ACP for his new Kimber 'Raptor' model. Maybe. I don't know.
Anyway, I sure had fun at the range with one of my fellow Bus Driver's today.
He was very generous in sharing that rather expensive ammunition!

I was still laughing about the experience on my drive home.

That all leads me to believe that a SRH Alaskan in .454 Casull just MIGHT be in my future!
I mean, it just HAS to be FUN to shoot!

.480 recoil for ME was milder.

I ran 100 rds the first time. I hated the thumb notch, kept bumping my thumb and I shoot high thumbs. Needed to be contoured for me...being it was not my gun, I did not mess with it. I don't wear gloves shooting - except when extreme cold.

I tested that day also on two rabid skunks caught in wire cages. Neighbor was trying to figure how to get them out ....480 works, only busted one wire on one cage. One ~ 20 steps the other at ~ 35 , iron sights and needed to see what I could do with the factory loads...

Personally - I prefer a Model 29 and the variety of load options from .44spl on up .

I haven't shot a .454 Casull --- YET.

I forgot to mention something about the Raging Bull, too.
On my 15th shot, the gun LOCKED ITSELF UP...
That's great if you like the stupid locks on some guns these days, one of which I have in the form of a new Remington 700 BDL / .375 Ultra Mag.
THAT feature must go.
Guess who's going to order some parts from Brownells...?

The .454 is a hoot! :D

I ran seventy-something rds first time...having too much fun and had a hard time putting it down; and one has to shoot one of these at dusk/ dark. :D

454 vs 480 is an inevitable comparison...

Glad you had fun...they are a hoot.

454 is NASTY...I have never liked it. I would rather have a 480ruger than a 454 based on the fact that my wrists hurt after shooting it.

i was at a local range a year ago and got to shoot a RB 454 and 480 in the same day at the range. The 480 is more of a push, the 454 is a CRACK.

I was there with my dad and his 357MAX. The 454 was like the 357MAX on steroids. The 480 is like my 357 magnum with some of my warm handloads on steroids. (mine are more of a push, than a smack)

In the end, there is a reason the RB only has 5 holes in the cylinder. ;)

But, the nice thing about a 454 is that you can shoot 45colt +P. (which I have done and they are quite managable...)

The newer RB are very well built handguns.

Hold up there partner!

Shoot one before you even think about buying one...i think youll change your mind pretty quickly. I shot one about a week ago and its not plesant AT ALL. And its not designed to be. With mild 45 colt loads, its fun...with 454 hot rod stuff, its down right punishing. The 480 ruger is a good bit milder than the 454...and you were firing it in a gun that weighs a bit more than the Ruger SRH Alaskan.

Your first shot will be either a serious eye opener, or someone will have to remove the hammer from your forehead.
