I shoot better with my P90

I went to the range on Tuesday and shot both my Ruger P90 and my Charles Daly 1911. I shot much better with the P90 than I did with the Charles Daly even though the Charles Daly has a lighter trigger. What are your experiences with the P90 vs. the 1911? The P90 also had less felt recoil than the Charles Daly.

A buddy of mine had a P90. I have a Charles Daly.

The CD is not really representative of 1911s in that it is much less expensive than most. However, many people (including myself) have had good luck with them and they do tend to be pretty accurate.

The P90 is a great gun for the money. According to Masaad Ayoob (spelling?) it is more accurate than most guns costing twice as much. From my experience with my buddy's gun I'd agree.

I only have 100 rounds thru my P90 so I really can't speak of the accuracy comparison to the CD I used to have. I can say though that the P90 does indeed have less felt recoil than any full sized 1911 I have shot, and it's 7 ounces lighter.

I have the Stainless Steel version (KP90); it is the first 45ACP that I have owned. I have "operated" a few others over the years, but I find I shoot better with the Ruger. It is "box stock", except for the Hogue grips.

The "felt recoil" is less that my buddy's "Mil-Spec" Springfield 1911a1, using the same ammo.

He is a diehard Springfield guy, but I think I am about to convert him to the offerings of Messrs. Alex Sturm and Bill Ruger.....:D

I'm not at all surprised.

I have several thousand rounds through my Ruger P-90TH and find it VERY accurate and controllable. I mention controlability because I feel that is so very important for the second and third shots in a defensive situation. I have zero experience with the CD handguns but their reputation is what it is. My P-90 is much more accurate than I am and I'm not bad. It was my carry gun until the warmer waether started. My only desire is that it had a set of good night sights. I have them picked out I just need to decide to spend the money. Good luck and Be Safe.

I know more than one person who owns a Ruger P-90 and a Colt/Kimber/Springfield and will be happy to testify that, in casual 25-yd offhand shooting, you can't tell the difference in accuracy. Sure, in the hands of a champeen bullseye shooter or a ransom rest, the 1911 will have a marked advantage, but I ain't a champeen bullseye shooter or a ransom rest.

The P-90 is more accurate and reliable than any gun in its' price class has a right to be. ;)

Two other minor things I forgot to mention about my KP-90....The stock black sights with 3 white dots are fairly decent under MOST lighting conditions, and it goes BANG! every time I mash the trigger, no matter whats in the magazine.

That goes without saying, it is a Ruger. The P89 I used to have had probably 2000-3000 rounds through it when I sold it and I never had one problem of any kind. Every time I ever sqeezed the trigger it went bang, extracted just fine and fed the next round ready to go again.

I OWN A CHARLES DAILY AND MY FRIEND HAS A P97D 45. I THINK THAT THE RUGER IS STRAIGHT AWAY MORE RELIABLE, BUT IS LESS ACCURATE. THE NICE THING ABOUT THE 1911 IS YOU CAN DO ANTHING YOU WANT TO IT, AND THEN SOME. IF YOU COULD ONLY HAVE ONE GUN AND HAD LOTS OF EXPERIENCE WITH GUNS THE 1911 WOULD BE MY CHOICE. IF YOU HAVE LIMITED EXPERIENCE AND LIMITED BUDGET, GO FOR THE P SERIES. IN THE END IT WILL SERVE YOUR NEEDS BETTER.

1911'S ARE LIKE CLASSIC CARS, YOU ARE ALWAYS PLANNING WHAT YOUR GONNA DO NEXT!

Traded my P90TH for a Kimber Custom Classic. I'd gotten to teh point that I was shooting the 90 weel, but it wasn't as accurate as I'd like it to be. (Combat accurate versus tack driver)

Switching to the 1911 style of gun took a few boxes of ammo. The Kimber doesn't have the wide body nor the long, gritty trigger pull. (The 90's main problems) Since you have to modify your grip and learn the shorter, cleaner trigger, it will take a little bit to transition.

After that break in, I can shoot much more accurately with my Kimber than I ever did with my 90.

Rugers are still the best value out there, just not the best in accuracy.

My CZ-97B is (slightly) more accurate, but my KP-90 fits my hand better and is lighter.

CZ-97B hold ten/single stack ... KP-90 hold 7, but can get extended mag for 10.

Different trigger pulls, different recoil (partly because of weight difference.). I get off faster second and third shots with CZ-97B.

Both are great values and I wouldn't trade either.

Hard to say which I like more .. .they're like kids. I love them both, but they are both different.
