I see a new 480 Ruger in my future...

I've always wanted one... but it's actually pretty low on the list ( several other guns are higher anyway )

this last weekend, the small town I live near, has a city wide rubbish sale... one sale had a coyote plywood tracing for a sign... I thought... hmmm... I better check that one out... then next thing, my buddy called, & said that guy had reloading stuff for sale...

well I bought a bag of new unopened Remington 30-06 cases, & a box of new unopened 30 caliber Sierra 180 grain bullets...

also on the table, was 5 boxes of 480 Ruger once fired brass ( 4 boxes of 20 older Hornady cases, & 1 box of nickel once fired Speer cases )... told the guy I've been wanting a revolver in that caliber... thinking I've heard brass is still pretty hard to come by... the guy said, if I was interested, he'd sell me all 5 boxes for $5.00 total...

I guess I can't go wrong at that price... so I now have 100 cases, to a revolver I don't own yet... decapped them, & wet tumbled them, & put them in plastic boxes, patiently waiting for a revolver...

guess I really do have a problem...:o
 
You got a great deal. I often buy brass/ammo/magazines for handguns I don't own yet. The handgun will turn up eventually and I'll buy it and be ready to go.
 
Well you have $5 tied up in a 480 Ruger. You might as well go the rest of the way and get a revolver. The BFR 475/480 is a real nice shooting revolver.
 
I agree the BFR in 475L/480R is a sweet gun, if you can find one. I just bought a BFR 7.5" 454 and know that the 475L/480R BFR is no longer a production model BFR (or the 500 JRH) but a custom shop only gun now.
 
Next buy dies, bullets and whatever powder you want to try first for the caliber (if you don't already have it) and load up a few.

Better to have ammo and waiting for a gun than have a gun and waiting for ammo:D.

When I knew my next gun purchase was going to be a Ruger Blackhawk 45 Colt I bought all the components first cause I had enough money for them but not for the gun and then when I got my Christmas bonus I bought the gun and was good to go when it arrived.

Didn't know that with regard to the 475/480 BFR. I have the 6.5". It is still a big revolver. I found it slightly used a year or so ago at a gunshop and was compelled to buy it. I wanted to know if the SA design would make it more comfortable to shoot relative to the SRH. It does.

I think a BFR custom in that caliber may well be worth it. They were already nice so the custom shop one should be even nicer.

The Ruger SRH's are reportedly back into production even though I have not seen one. Somehow, I'd still like to get an Alaskan in 480. No use for it.... just want to shoot it and have some fun.
