There is a small scratch on the finish on the back of my CZ 75 BD right where my palm goes. It seems that there is a polycoat layer and that is what i scratched/nicked off, is there anyway to fix this?

Look for Walt Sherrill on the CZ Forum - he has a wealth of knowledge on CZ's and I recall a thread from long ago where he had a very good way to fix deep scratches with some kind of auto paint, or something like that!

Good luck!

Black marker

If it is black anodized aluminum, you can get a Sharpee permanent marker, fine point, and mark over any visible silver aluminum. Work it into the scratch a little with some pressure on the tip. Then wipe with a clean cloth. It is not super permanent but does a good job and will not wipe out of the scratch easily unless you get some kind of solvent on it. On shiny black frames, it can make a tiny scratch/nick more or less invisible. They make some stuff called aluminum black from birchwood casey, but it leaves a matte finish and I don't think it is very durable for the money, in my experience. Maybe wipe the scratch with alcohol and dry before applying the marker, in case there is any gun or human oily residue there. If it is some kind of shiny black polymer on steel, you would need some kind of paint, I guess. Something real durable and a very fine brush. Testers hobby paint is an example of a paint that is not that durable! They took the good stuff out of it that made it strong, for health reasons.

Thanks, I did that and this is what Walt Sherrill on the CZ forums had to say

" Duplicolor (Auto) touch-up paint in matte black is an almost perfect match. For minor nicks and chips. its perfect.

(The spray can works. Spray onto a piece of aluminum foil and then use the tip of a small paintbrush to apply the paint. It will probably be easier to use than the touchup paint in the small bottle.)

(Just about any small bottle of matte black auto touch-up paint will work, really.)"

Thanks Tom, Fire and Walt! I feel worlds better now. :) :) :)

You sure it's not a "notch"?
Congratulations, now that you got that out of the way (the scratch), it's now something you no longer have to worry about. Wear it with pride and honor. It adds character.

rust on the slide...

hey guys...

I also need your help...
My guns slide caught rust and so i used kerosene to remove it...
when that didn't work on the pitted rust deposits i got a fine sandpaper and sanded away...
got rid of the rust but my problem now i fear it'll come back to haunt my slide...

i was thinking maybe i can paint it with spray paint( i use it on my motorcycle)...

any thoughts on this....

by the way the gun is a Daewoo DP51. the frame is alluminum and i'm going for a flat black color on the slide...

Paint it?

Well since you soaked it in kerosene, whatever you do you are gonna have to do a good job of degreasing it before you spray anything on. Probably some invisible residue left. The trouble with paint will be, will it wear well and will gun cleaning solvents and oils attack it? One type of durable paint is epoxy based. I think Rustoleum or someone makes an epoxy based spray. But I don't know if that is the answer for a gun. I do know they use epoxy paint on aircraft including parts that are exposed to all kinds of fluids. Safer might be some of the bake on sprays that they sell thru places like Brownells, that are designed for firearms and solvent resistant. They come in matte or gloss and also more than just black, I think. They did paint on finishes on guns like British surplus rifles and pistols, but you can go see them at a gunshow and see how well that worked! Probably used more durable paints with lead, etc. in them for that, and you cannot get that anymore due to the fact that some kid might chew on flakes of it.
