I Saw My First CZ 75 Today!

I went to Montgomery today and looked at several different guns. There were two that really impressed me. The CZ 75 and the Ruger P97. I am looking for a 9mm for cc as most of you know. I had been thinking about a DAO, but am reconsidering now. I have a P95, but it's too big for cc. The P97 is also, but it really felt alot better in my hand than the P95.

Now, to the CZ75. I've only read good things about this gun, but it was lots better than I anticipated. He didn't have the compact, but I was very tempted to go ahead and get the one he had. It had a 10 and a 15 round mag. and was $399.00. Is this a good price? He said that the compact would be $50.00 more.

Can you get a 75 with ambidextrous safeties?

The only 75B that comes with ambi controls is the Single-Action version, which is pretty nice.

The 85B is basically the same gun as the 75B, but it has ambi-controls and a few other minor differences. Doesn't cost that much more, so if you want ambi-controls, that's the way to go.

The 85 Combat is similar, again, but without the firing pin block, and with drop-free mags (a different mag brake inside the gun allows the mags to drop free) and an adjustable sight.

They're great guns. (I have an 85 Combat.)

Hi Tim,
I think I just bought the same gun (CZ75BD)and paid the same price as what you saw...and I am verrrrrry happy..for me this is the gun that I can shoot the best !
I have tried several other semiautos and couldn't get anywhere close to the results this CZ gave me right out of the box.

I say buy the CZ !!!

Tim,

They imported TWENTY ambidexterous compacts (85s) around 8 years ago, at least in the book I browsed in B&N last night. Priced accordingly ("ask for an appraisal").

The 85 doesnt come in a Compact..just the 75. They come in a Compact, PCR and P01 the newest version. The PCR and P01
are alloy framed and are better carry weapons. Shoot well

I'll have what he's having

I carry a Ruger P95, too, and yeah, it sucks for CCW. On the other hand, I love it for reliability and price. So I'm thinking one of those CZ compacts in two-tone is going to be my next purchase.

I'm interested to hear how it stacks up against the P95.

Should I get the 85B and have the option of Carrying cocked and locked if I ever felt confident enough or just go ahead and pick up the 75 and carry with the hammer down?

I used to have a Ruger P89 and I currently have a CZ 75B. The CZ is a much better gun. It is much more accurate and the fit and finish is much nicer. On the outside the fit and finish of the CZ is probably very close to SIG, though the inside isn't as nicely finished. The gun feels better (I know that is very subjective but most people who try both seem to agree, actually most people love the feel of the CZ). The CZ and Ruger have similar reliability and durability. Best of all the price is about the same (around here the CZ is a little less).

Also, if it tells you anything I sold the Ruger (I regretted selling it but I did sell it and I'm no longer sure I'll replace it) and I will never sell my CZ (I just bought a CZ 40 to go with it and I'll soon buy the CZ 100 or CZ 75 PCR as my next purchase).

It had a 10 and a 15 round mag. and was $399.00. Is this a good price?

I got one with the 15 rounder and I paid exactly the same. Around here that is as good as you'll get. You can get one for a little less online but after shipping and transfer fees the difference will be small enough (if it still exists) that I doubt if it would be worth the trouble.

Tim, the 75b can be carried cocked and locked or hammer down just like the 85 combat. The only ones that can't be carried cocked and locked are the ones with the decockers. Mark

railroader,

I know that the 75 can be carried cocked and locked, but I am left-handed and it would be difficult to manipulate the safety unless it was ambidextrous.

Do the 85's come with the 15 round mags? Does anyone think that it would be possible to get the ambi safety from CZ and install it myself or have a smith install it?

Please help me decide, because I would like to go ahead and get the 75 if the 85 doesn't come with the 15 round mag. The 399.00 is the best price that I've seen and someone else may snap it up. If I knew that I would be able to get the safety and add it on, I would go ahead and call the guy and have him hold it for me.

I have a CZ 85 Combat. It has an ambidextrous safety and also the slide release, but the mag release is right handed. It uses the same mags as the CZ 75, so they are readily available.

By the way, the entire CZ line is available for very good prices from the CZ Connection at 1-888-207-2220 or use this link: http://pdmall.com/CZC/cz~1.htm. You can also check gunbroker.com for their prices and a list of FFL transfer dealers.

There is no package for the 85 that comes with 15 round mags. However, the mags are plentiful and relatively inexpensive. CZ made up a ton of them just before the ban went into effect so they are probably the easiest company to get standard capacity (high-caps) mags for. You can buy them off the CZ website for $48, in most stores that stock CZs for $50-60 and off a guy on the CZ Forum for $38 plus shipping (these are factory mags, my gun came from CZ with a 15 rounder and I got one from this guy and a buddy just got two so I can personally vouch for that). If you'd prefer the 85 don't let the fact that it won't come with 15 rounders stop you.

CZ75BD

I got so tired of people proclaiming the superiority of the CZ75 over my beloved Beretta 92FS that I bought one (75BD) just to see what all the hullabaloo was about.

Uh, it's pretty darned nice. I'm not ready to concede to its superiority yet, but I like just about everything about it. It's worked perfectly from day one. You might check czforum.com and see what other owners think about theirs.

How much harder is it going to be to conceal the full size compared to the compact? Which IWB holster works with the 75B/85B?

Thanks!
