I saw a funny thing today...

wandering around my local gun shop, you know the feeling, no money, but want to be there anyways, well i saw a rack with some ak rifles. there was a few trade ins, a mak 90 and a solitary sar-1 marked used sitting there. so i was picking up the ak's one at a time, and when i got to the sar-1, out of habbit, i racked back the slide and inspected the chamber, then holding open the bolt and holding the gun so the bolt face reflected some light i looked down the bore, to my suprise i didn't see any rifleing. "Optical illusion" i said to myself, and re-positioned the gun for better light gathering, still looked like a smoothbore. I went to the guy at the counter and asked if he had a flashlight or something, he said he didn't but allowed me to field strip it at the counter so i could hold it up to the light, both me and him inspected it, wierdest thing i ever did see, somehow the gun was either shipped un rifled, or somewhere along the line some dip**** bored out the barrel. anyone ever heard of anything that wierd before? I refuse to beleive that someone would be stupid enough to bore out the rifling on a gun, but there it was is this some weird un-accurizing procedure that i missed somehow?

I wonder if it had any proof marks. But then again, for proof firing, they're not testing to see where the bullets went. It's quite possible that the barrel never got rifled either. Gee, if that's the case, buy it! Ya got a sleeper.

BTW, is the barrel long enough to be a legal smoothbore?

That would be cool to have. Use it as a loaner. for people who need to be humbled. Should be able to get it for price of the receiver n stock cause the barrel is just another bumper jack handle.

Whoa....should not even think bout shootin till the bore checked for size, if drilled but not rifled would be undersized.....high pressure parts bustin people shredder...........then definately wants to be plugged and used for jack handle.

Oughtta tell the dealer, he might not realize it is a potential face gernade and liability lawsuit combo gun.

Haven't you ever heard of....

"De-accurizing" a rifle? Lots of people do it, in order to give them something to do - "re-accurize" it. :) JK. I dunno. Marlin has a "garden gun" smoothbore in .22 mag - makes for a better pattern than a rifled bbl when shooting encapsulated shot - maybe someone was shooting capsule shot handloads in .311 (???) out of the AK, and smoothed the bore, or just a factory error (ha - no wonder it's for re-sale!). I like the idea of humbling someone - wonder if the original owner was humbled to the point of giving up on shooting altogether - hope not.

Wait a minute, didn't you know that is the extremely rare smooth bore 7.62 X 39 shotgun!!?? C'mon you were only kidding me, right? :p
