I really like the Anschütz website (price check)

Ahem, anyway, I was at a local shop one day at the suggestion of a co-worker who had mentioned he had just bought an Anschütz with a 54 action. I have been seriously looking at their rifles for about a year now and he had said that the gun shop currently had a 1451 for sale for $250 (64 action). Looked at it, looked very nice, very smooth action, no sights on the gun on display (didn't ask if sights came with it at the time as I know some models don't come equiped with them). Went home to check on pricing, low was $239, high was $299 at Guns America. Wanted to get it today but was held over at work. Hopefully tomorrow.

I was actually very close to getting a 54.18 a month ago but Championship Shooters Supply (2 hours away) is busy at Camp Perry and the people in charge won't be back until Aug. 14. I did compare their price to the gun shops price and they were way high, if indeed, the gun advertised on the website is the same one.

So, since pricing at Championship could be considerably more that what others are offering, do any TFL members know of any other places selling Anschütz products (including accessories) I can check prices with?

Thanks in advance.

hksigwalther,

Anschutz prices are all over the board in my area. My suggestion would be to get an FFL holder to call the usual channels: Champions Choice, Gunsmithing Inc., International Shooters Service and Champion Shooter's Supply.

By the way the 1451 action is not a 64.

Good shooting,
JB

"Champions Choice, Gunsmithing Inc., International Shooters Service..."

I'll have to check these guys out.

JB,

What is the difference between the 1451 and 64 actions? How close or far are they related? (I could only compare the two from pictures as the gun shop didn't have a 64 on hand to compare and the photos of the two look very similar. I was also going on a co-worker's information.)

Thanks much for the info.

hksigwalther,

The 1451 and 64 actions are, as you noted, very similar in photos. However, if lay them side-by-side, you'll notice the 1451 is shorter than the 64, the triggers are different, and the biggest difference: the action of the 1451 is held in the stock with only one action bolt . The last difference is the most important, IMO. A 64 is a very nice action, a 54 is head and shoulders above the 64. If you are a serious shooter, you won't be satisfied until the 54 is in your possesion. I just wish they made the 54 in a LH sporter.

Good shooting,
JB

Thanks JB. I did get the 1451 and am very impressed by the trigger for a $250 gun. I can't imagine what a 54 action feels like. Hopefully, I will soon.

The 1451 is really for my nieces and nephew when they grow up and I teach them about shooting and firearms. They'll start off with a Marlin Little Buckaroo and the 1451 is step 2. Until then, however, I think I'll have a little fun with it myself.:)

hksigwalther,

Sorry, I didn't know your intended purpose for the rifle. Your mention of contemplating a 54.18 led me down an alternate path. Obviously a 1451 is a excellent rifle for a young person. There is also a single shot adapter available for it (710.4700) that would be a good addition for those young shooters. You must be a great uncle to have in the family :)

Good shooting,
JB
