OK. I picked up a couple of Colt Police Positives today. I will be getting a third and a Lawman MKIII snub 357 Magnum soon also. The oldest PP is a Railway Express Agency special order revolver. The last patent date on top of the barrel is OCT, 5 1926. It is a 38 New Police chambering. The frame and cylinder are short, very short. There is no way this could be confused with a 38 Special. It has the checkered combat trigger. Ser.# is in the 336XXX range. Half round front sight with serrated top strap and notch rear. Walnut checkered with silver rampant Colt grips. The cylinder release is also checkered. Blue is original but has turned a ugly greige. The second is a bit of an odd duck. It is a Royal Hong Kong Police model. RHKP 5864 is stamped pretty much everywhere. The hammer and trigger are serrated/grooved rather than checkered. The frame and cylinder are longer as a normal 38 Special PP would be. The chambering marked on the left side of the barrel is 38 Colt NP and 38 S&W CTG. The front sight is ramped and serrated in the back. There is a round lanyard ring a la Webley. The grips are odd. They seem to be original to the revolver. The left grip is a thumb rest style and the right side grip is a rampant Colt style with the material being a hard rubber AFAIK. Ser.# is in the 871XXX range. Both revolvers checked out fine. When were these made? Are the black hard rubber (plastic?) grips OEM?
