I ordered my Christmas present today,,,
Since no one will buy me anything,,,
I sorta hafta do it for myself.
I've been trying to decide what pistol to pair up with a Mossberg 702 Plinkster,,,
It pleases me to make range sets and case them all together.
So I've been bandying different ideas about,,,
S&W M&P Compact, Browning Buckmark, or maybe a Ruger SR22.
Last weekend I got to fire a pistol I hadn't been considering,,,
It's one I fired early on in my burgeoning gun-nuttery,,,
I wasn't all that impressed with the gun back then,,,
But firing it again gave me a new appreciation.
I ordered a 5.5" S&W M22A as a companion to the Mossberg.
I will admit that a big factor in the decision was cost,,,
The Browning Buckmark Practical was really calling out to me.
But since this rifle/pistol kit might ( and I stress might) be used as a graduation gift,,,
I decided that spending over $400.00 for the pistol was excessive.
Spending $240.00 (including the transfer fee) for a gift is doable,,,
Spending $404.00 (including the transfer fee) is too much.
What sold me on this pistol was it's performance and accuracy,,,
My friend let me shoot 100 rounds through his pistol,,,
I was hitting as well with it as with my 22/45's,,,
So I decided going cheap wasn't a bad thing.
As far as aesthetics go,,,
It will match the Mossberg very nicely.
If I do end up gifting it away,,,
I don't think my young friend will be disappointed.
I will have until May to decide whether he gets this gift,,,
In the meantime I can happily break it in.
It was fun doing the reading on what was out there,,,
And speculating on the different guns was fun,,,
But sometimes simple economics wins out.

P.S. I'll get that Buckmark for myself in the spring.
