Readers might have heard that sad song before, however I think it was the election before the most recent one, where the U.S. Senate seat from Nevada was determined by about 500 votes. Then there are the ongoing festivities in Washington state, over who will sit in the governor's chair, where the issue seems to hang on VERY FEW VOTES.
I don't know what the issues were in Nevada, nor am I familiar with what is going on in Washington either, however looking at the small number of votes that determined the final result, or will determine the finals, that business about "my vote doesn't count" rings hollow to my ear.
Of course, people can and do vote foolishly, but even foolishly cast votes count. So when next you hear that sad refrain, ask yourself the following. How loudly will this non voter cry over the antics or the actions of an "elected thing" he or she didn't vote for or against, as the case might be, when they had the chance to so do. You might put the same question to the individual.
