I called Ron Paul's office today, asking the status of HR 407 (National CCW Reciprocity). Currently it's in a Judiciary sub committee chaired by McCollum of Florida.
McCollum is supposed to be pro Second Amendment. We need movement on this bill.
I called my Congressman (Goodling of PA.) and asked for an update on his support of this bill.
Personally, I don't think it can get through the White House as a stand alone bill...Clinton would almost certainly veto it (don't you wish we could veto him as easily?).
As an alternative, I called back to Ron Paul's office asking them to consider modifying HR 407 to an amendment on the Juvenile Crime Bill that we hate so much (with all it's gun control BS in it).
I think this is doable...but we need to call ALL of our congressional representatives. Those of you from Utah need to call Senator Hatch and ask him to add an equivalent amendment to the Senate version. Also, call both Henry Hyde and Dennis Hastert...remind both of these folks that if they want to be in the positions of leadership that they are in, they WILL listen to ALL citizens, not just their constiuents.
Also, remind both of them that they were so solemm in their Constitutional duties when trying to impeach Clinton. Well, they better be just as solemm in the protection of our Second Amendment rights.
We must realize that some form of the Juvenile Crime Bill, with all it's attendent gun control amendments, will go to Clinton's desk.
If that bill has a National CCW Reciprocity amendment in it...well, Clinton will be in quite a dilemma. I think he'd sign it to get the provisions he wants.
If the bill goes to the White House, as is...we lose. If the Amendment I'm suggesting is on it, we win something at minimum...maybe a total veto.
Remind your representatives that CCW holders do not commit crimes, we're the good guys...the law abiding citizens that Clinton does not want to remove guns from (his words, not mine).
Folks, you can copy, print, disseminate this request any way you want to. In fact, PLEASE do that...to all BBS's, gun shops, etc, etc.
I'm not asking for responses here...on this BBS. Use your energies to dial 202 224 3121, and ask for your representative or senator.
Thank you!!
