I need two things to restore my K-98 Mauser,,,
The wood piece of the stock on top of the barrel,,,
That's the piece just in front of the rear sight ramp,,,
I also need the hood that covered the front sight blade.

Everything else about the rifle is original,,,
Just like when my great-uncle Bantie brought it back from the war.

If any of you good folk happen to have these parts,,,
Please contact me and let me know what you would have to have for them.

I thank you in advance,,,

Call up Mitchell's Mausers. They will probably have the original parts you are looking for, usually they will sell you original take off parts from the rifles they restore.

Call Joe

Here is the name of a good contact on this subject. He is currently working on helping me restore two K98's. Will tell you that he has a very blasé attitude so you have to look so look beyond this as he is very knowledgeable and helpful. He has been restoring my "stuff" for over 20yrs. ..... ;)
Kindly let me know how you make out ..... :)

The wood piece is termed a "handguard".

I wasn't aware that K-98 military rifles had front sight hoods like commercial rifles.

Thanks gentlemen,,,

Thanks gentlemen,,,
I really appreciate your help here.

Yep, mine did,,,
I remember removing it when I was in high school,,,
I put it on a shelf somewhere and forgot about it's existence. :o

I'm positive mine is a true German K-98,,,
At least I'm as positive as a paid appraisal can make me.

I know for certain my great uncle Bantie brought it back from Europe after WW-II.

"...and that's when Ol' Uncle Bantie found the entrance to Hitler's bunker 'neath a pile o dead Nazis. He crept in quiet as a cat; could hear ol' boy Hitler hollerin' into a radio somewhere's deep in the bunker. Ol' Uncle Bantie crept up behind him and whispered in his ear, "When you get to Hell, tell 'em Bantie sent ya."

Just then, Eva Braun spit out her cyanide pill, jumped off her couch and leapt at Uncle Bantie. She swung at him and he crouched and side-stepped her feeble attempt to fell him. He pulled out his knuckle duster and buried it in her neck.

Just as Ol' Uncle Bantie turned around, Hitler swung this here rifle at him - this very rifle! Uncle Bantie put up his dukes and blocked the rifle with his forearm shattering the hand guard! They was grappling now for the rifle, face to face on the floor with this very rifle betwixt them. As a show of force meant to intimidate ol' boy Hitler, Uncle Bantie opened his mouth and bit off the front post hood and spit it in Hitler's face. That allowed him to gain the upper hand and as they say, 'The Rest is History.'

Well, thanks to FrankenMauser,,,
