ive got a henry lever action (in 17 hmr) that i recently had tapped and a weaver style scope rail put on. When i went to zero it this weekend, the rail is so high that i ran out of adjustment when i was trying to zero (using the low mounts). I was doing some searches on here and i was reading up on shimming, but honestly i just dont like the idea of that. Ive found some adjustable one piece mounts but i cant find anything in the weaver style, does know of a maker of adjustable weaver 2 piece mounts out there? If not, could i switch to a medium high mount in the back (i cant get the scope to adjust down far enough). Ive never had to tinker with mounts before so i need all the help i can get.

I had to shim my old Marlin 39A scope mounts. I guess the holes are slightly out of true. I have the old Weaver mounts clamped to a one piece rail that screws to the top of the rifle. I had a 4 power Weaver on it for decades, but when I tried to put an equally old 2X7 Leupold on it, I couldn't get the crosshairs over far enough to sight it in. Well...heck...so I shimmed it. Took a couple of tries to get it just right, but it all works fine now. Part of the problem was determining what to use for shimming - how thick or thin and what material. So if all else fails you, shimming is an option.

i looked up the zees jimro, do you buy a special insert to fix my problem? i see where the rings come with an insert but that wouldnt fix my problem by itsself i dont think unless i used an insert in the back mount and not one in the front, is that what you mean?

The Burris signature rings come with the standard insert, you will have to buy the others. It seems to me that there was a package with all of the inserts in it for a pretty reasonable cash outlay.

Burris sells a package of inserts with +/- 5, +/- 10 and +/- 20 ratings.

I have had two mounts that needed +/- 10s.

In one case I needed the adjustment to shoot at 100 yards with my 10-22 because the scope didn't have the range to cover the 6-7 added MOA after I had zeroed 50 yards.

In the other case, the mount was so far off that I needed to adjust for the mount just to get zeroed.

The Burris Signature ZEE rings really work and the inserts also protect the scope barrel from scratches.
I am a believer.
