I need some help with my new mossberg ghost rings

I just received my Ghost Ring Sights from Mossberg last night. I was looking over my gun and I have a few questions.

1. I see that the rear sight fits the two inner holes in my receiver. Is the elevation adjustment screw supposed to ride on the receiver, or screw into the rear-most hole?

2. So far none of the local shops can solder the front on, but one shop wants to drill 2 holes in my barrel and front site and screw it down as well as epoxy. He also wants $60 to do it. Is this a good idea?

3. Is the front sight the adjustment for windage?

4. They are supposed to be New, yet they came with no packeging, just an envelope. They also came oily, is this normal? no instructions either. I know how to install them, but hell, even a pack of matches comes with instructions.

5. Is there an alterate method of attaching the front that I can do?

I wouldn't even attempt answering this if any one of the holy legion of Mossberg fans had offered you some help before now, but since your questions linger unanswered, I'll do what I can. Note that I am an infidel 870 fan and thus answers I offer might not be suitable according to the Doctrine of the Mossberg Enlightened 8^). But I'll do the best I can, not being familiar with how Mossberg arranges their GR sights.

-------------------------------
Don't know, not familiar with Mossberg factory sights. I doubt it though, both holes should be for attachment screws.

2. So far none of the local shops can solder the front on, but one shop wants to drill 2 holes in my barrel and front site and screw it down as well as epoxy. He also wants $60 to do it. Is this a good idea?
---------------------------------
I wouldn't do that. Instead, ask Mossberg how much they'll charge to install the sights for you, or look for a REAL gunsmith in your area/region.

3. Is the front sight the adjustment for windage?
-------------------------
Usually they're fixed, as I said I don't know Mossberg's sight system.

4. They are supposed to be New, yet they came with no packeging, just an envelope. They also came oily, is this normal? no instructions either. I know how to install them, but hell, even a pack of matches comes with instructions.
---------------------------
If that's how they sent 'em, it's probably normal. Likely they don't think of it as a DIY job, so no instructions needed.

5. Is there an alterate method of attaching the front that I can do?
---------------------------
None I can think of, either find yourself a REAL gunsmith locally or talk to the factory about doing the work for you.

djturnz,

To me the answer is obvious, as Lee Lapin mentions above in his response to point # 5.

Likewise, MY first step to resolve this would be to CALL MOSSBERG and let them help you. After all, it's their product and they know all there is to know about mounting it.

If THEY don't have an answer, no one does.
