I need concealment help.

I have had my permit for just over a year now. When I started carrying I had a XD .40 sub compact. It was way to small to grip comfortably for me.

I now carry the XD .45 Service model with the 4" barrel, seen here. It is a bit of a large carry gun but I like the gun. I have an IWB holster but it just clips onto the waist band of my trousers. I usually carry just forward of my right back pocket.

Now I am not a small guy, but I'm not huge either. I'm 5' 10" and 205lbs. I have noticed I am printing a bit. I usually have a polo shirt and a vest over it. The problem is that my holster doesn't hold the pistol tight enough to my body. The other problem is that a couple of times I have gone to stand up and noticed that the holster was in the process of unclipping itself from my waist band and almost falling out.

I want to avoid the closet full of holsters that many here have described, so I am looking for suggestions.

I would like to stay IWB but I am open to trying new locations in the waist band. I just want a good quality comfortable holster that I can wear for the better part of a day and not have it fall out when I stand up.

Try owb. iwb is just not comfortable for most people. also lose the vest it just screams ccw. don't worry about printing unless utah has very strict rules regarding concealment. most people will not notice.

Bluesfan, were not talking a photography style vest. I have always worn fleece vests since, well, forever. When it is hot I do loose the vest.

This isn't me but it is my style of dress.

I will also look into high noon and owb solutions. Thanks for the suggestions golfnut and bluesfan

As I type this, I'm wearing a Colt CCO in an Andrews Leather McDaniel II. It's very comfortable, and it hides the gun really, really well. I have one for a full size 1911 as well, and it's surprising how easily this holster hides a large gun. You can adjust the cant so that the long grip of your gun doesn't print. There's also the Mitch Rosen ARG which is a similar design, a little cheaper, and in stock at Brownells.

If you have to have a holster that clips on, look at the Comp-Tac Infidel. Comp-Tac's belt clips work much, much better for me than any other type. All others I've tried either go on easy but are hell to take off or vice versa. Comp-Tac's are the only one I've ever used that goes on easy, comes off easy, and is totally secure on the belt. I've got one of these on the other side of my belt right now. I'll be getting one for my CCO soon for those occasions when I know my gun is going to have to come on and off, like going to the post office, etc.

I didn't notice, but first off get a good gun belt. Your XD is likely heavy enough that you need a good belt to support its weight. Regardless of holster, without a good belt you are going to sag and have issues. Check out thebeltman.net if you don't have a good belt.

As far as IWB, check out Galco, Bianchi, Don Hume and High Noon holsters. All make good holsters for the money and should perform well for you.

Desantis Cozy Partner. Cost me about $65 at the local gunstore. Leather has snap straps and will mold itself to the contour of where you wear it. The one I use for my M&P is for the XD. All I have to do to put it on or take it off is loosen my belt instead of taking it off. The snaps are metal and quite stout. I can holt it upside down with a full mag of 10 .45 ACP in it without it coming loose.

What everybody is telling you... YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR...

Pay top dollar (as much as you can afford) for a good holster and then spend a good bit on a good belt too...

i carriwd my xd40sc in a bladetech uch for about 3.5 yrs, had it fall off my bike at 45mph(broken belt) and bounce down the road. it stayed in the holster, and only minor scrapes to either.

i alos lost a screw while cleaning it, and bladetech sent me a whole new screw/tension kit free.

they make quite a few varietys of holster.

I like the Milt Sparks Versa Max 2 IWB worn at about 3:30 on a stout belt from El Paso Saddlery.

It helps to buy your pants a little loose, and you may need to go a size larger with your polo shirt.

I carry a full size 1911 on a gun belt (not a regular dress belt), . . . and at 6'1" and 200, . . . we're pretty close in size.

I wear a Cactus holster, . . . it allows me to wear it IWB, OWB, or it can be tucked in if I have to lose my leather vest.

Works for me.

May God bless,
Dwight

I love blade tec holsters. I have an IWB for my h&k expert & tactical. They aren't little guns and the holsters hold them close & tight to my body with no discomfort at all. I have a few other IWB holsters that work well. Summer special and a few Ross leather holsters. A good belt is a must also. The ross leather holsters I have I like but not as much as my other holsters with two belt loops. Sometimes the single loop holsters will rock up or down if I sit and stand a lot.

CrossBreed

I love the CrossBreed holsters. I have a SuperTuck Deluxe for my M&Ps (fits both my 40 and 9c). Great holsters, conceal very well. As for my S&W 442, I haven't gotten away from the Uncle Mike's IWB. Not to hijack, but I would also like some advice on possible IWBs for my GP100 4".

Ding! Ding! Ding!

A bad (flimsy) belt will make a good holster not work properly. You might be amazed at the difference in stiffness between a Beltman (or similar) gun belt and a plain dress belt. I was.

I have a Crossbreed supertuck and really like it.

I'll bet that the amount of printing you see is visible only to you. The masses wouldn't notice if you were on fire.

HBE Leatherworks or Overland gun leather makes very good IWB holsters and my fullsize 1911 is hidden easiily with only a shirt tucked or untucked doesn't matter.
