Im gonna be getting a new rifle shortly its a M77MII .223, I have an opportunity of getting one of 2 scopes off a friend of mine, one is a BSA Platinum its a 6X24X44 and the other is a Simmons Whitetail which is a 6x24x50, I don't have a whole lot right now to spend on a scope I only have about a $100.00 and he will sell me either of them for $60.00, the BSA has 1/8" click adjustments and the Simmons has 1/4" click adjustments and you can dial in your yardage on both of them. They are both fairly new less than 100 rounds. and they are both in nice condition and are crystal clear.
Or if you have another recommendation on a scope I would appreciate it..
Thanks

If I had the choice of the two I would go with the Simmons. A much better reputation and a better product. You might want to check with http://www.swfa.com and see what they have any Leupold Vari X II scopes for around the same prices or just a little bit higher. Leupold's have a great warrenty if anything happens which it usually dosn't.

I have both BSA and Simmons and the Simmons are a bit clearer. I would opt for the Simmons, to bad it is not the smaller Objective to get the scope closer the the plane of the muzzle.

Karsten,
What objective would you recommend a 40mm?
Im just learning about scopes so please bare with me...
I was told since its gonna be a varmint rifle Im better off with at least a 4x12x40 or better, so with these being a 6x24 I figured it may work out better.
I was gonna stick a 3x9x40 on there, untill I was told Im better off with a higher power scope for varmints.

I've found that Simmons quality is ahead of the BSA. Don't quote me on this but I think that Simmons offers a lifetime warranty...

SFS, I am no expert by any means. I was told when I asked about larger objectives and high rings that it was best to keep the scope as low as possible the the path or bullet flight. A 50MM is going to have your cross hairs about 2.5 inches higher the the bullet will leave the muzzle. Now I has told this by a certified US Army long range shooter.
IMHO I would go with the Simmons Prohunter 4x12x40 for $99.99 of the 6x18x40 for $109.99 including shipping from http://www.midwayusa.com or from the same place Simmons 8 Point 4x14x40 for $79.99. Prices include shipping.
I have a friend that may have a few Simmons 4x16x42MM Blazer scopes with Target Knobs for around $80.00. These a 1 shot bore sight type scopes.
You may find the 3x9x40 would be great if you are going to stay around 100-200 yards and those are less than $50.00. Also keep in mind I use a 4x16x40MM on a .308 bolt and a 4x16x42MM on a SA M1A both longer range rifles. An SKS I have I have a 3X9X40MM mounts and my .223 is a VMatch with a ATN 5x33L lighted Reticle that is calibrated out to 500 yards for Bullet drop. Those can be had for about $170 and they are a heck of a scope. I would have to find the web site if you want to spend a bit more. I have pic's of all the rifles and verious scopes if interested.

Again, this is just an opinion.

Good Luck

Another vote for the Simmons. I have a 3-9x40 ProHunter on my 30.30 lever gun and I'm putting a 6.5-20x44 44 Mag on my Savage .308 bolt gun. Simmons aren't as highly regarded as Leupolds, but they represent a very good value for the money. At $60, you can't go wrong with the Simmons.

I have a Simmons Pro-Hunter fixed-power 6x40mm. Very satisfied with it, since I paid 80$ for it at Cabela's. I do not know or care about BSA, so I can't be much more help.

For an inexpensive scope, go with Simmons!

Just my barely enlightened 0.02$
