Let me preface this response by stating I have scopes from Redfield and Leupold and truly believe they are worth every penny paid.
That said, I've had very good luck with Bushnell scopes on .22 cal rifles. Either the Trophy or a Banner series are good values. My 'Coon rifle a Winchester Model 131 has the same 4X Bushnell Banner on it that I paid $30 new, ahem, 20+ years ago. It's taken more of a beating than any scope/rifle combiation I've ever owned and the zero has never required adjustment. The optics are pretty good, most of the time I'm lucky to have 2 Wheat lights to shoot by and the little Banner is plenty bright enough to pick out a raccoon 30 to 40 feet up.
A friend just put a Simmons Model 1022 4X scope on a Marlin he intends on bringing raccon hunting this year. I shot that set up a couple of weeks ago. For the $40 he paid for it seems like a pretty nice scope. Weaver style rings were included with it in the box.
This spring my nephew put a $65 Tasco 2x8 variable from Wally World on a CZ 527 in .223. He spent more than expected for the rifle and cut back the scope budget figuring to upgrade later. He has no problem taking 'chucks out to 150 yards.
Just my opinion on budget scopes. Twenty years ago budget scopes were pretty trashy and poorly made. The budget scopes I've looked at in the past few years seem to be much better made and the optics very good. I'm not saying you can get top end performance or life from them but I think the scopes from Tasco, Simmons and Bushnell in the $75 to $100 range represent good value for .22 caliber or rifles that do not see heavy use.
One man's opinion for what it's worth.
